Looker instance requirements
To set up a Looker data source using the Looker connector in Looker Studio, your Looker instance must meet the following requirements:
- The instance must be Looker-hosted. The Looker Studio connector is not available for customer-hosted Looker instances.
- The Looker Studio BI connector must be enabled in the Platform section of the Admin panel.
- The following minimum Looker versions are required:
Type of Looker instance | Hosting provider | Minimum Looker version |
---|---|---|
Looker (Google Cloud core)* | Google Cloud | 23.6 |
Looker (original) | AWS, Azure | 23.4 |
Looker (original) | Google Cloud | 22.16 |
* Looker (Google Cloud core) instances must use a public IP or a private IP (private services access) and public IP network connection.
Support of Looker Studio features
The following Looker Studio features have limited or no availability for Looker data sources:
- The scheduling email deliveries and downloading reports functions are disabled for reports with a Looker data source connection. Although the option to perform each action is available, the delivered and downloaded reports will not contain data.
- Calculated fields are disabled for Looker data sources.
- Exceptionally large Looker models (generally those with more than 100 Explores) may cause long delays or timeouts during the data source creation process.
- You can include up to 20 dimensions and up to 10 in metrics in a table visualization.
- There is a 5-minute query timeout.
- Users who run queries from a Looker data source are subject to the Looker
download_with_limit
permission, which restricts the number of rows that a user may load to 5,000.
