Mark messages as read or unread

If you want to remember to read a message later, you can mark it as unread. You can also mark messages as read without opening them.

Mark a message as unread or read

  1. On your computer, go to Gmail.
  2. On the left of the message, check the box.
  3. At the top, click Mark as unread or Mark as read .

Mark all messages as read

  1. On your computer, go to Gmail.
  2. At the top left of your inbox, check the box to select all your messages.
  3. At the top, click Mark as read .
