In Gmail, you can use the toolbar to manage a message from your inbox or directly in the message. You can use the buttons in the toolbar to take action on the message, such as deleting or reporting it as spam.
Take action on your messages
- Next to one or more messages, click the checkbox.
- Alternatively, open a message in your inbox.
- At the top, select a button:
- Archive : Archive the message.
- Report spam : Report the message as spam.
- Delete : Delete the message.
- Mark as unread : Mark the message as unread.
- Move to : Move the message to a label.
- More : Find more options for managing your messages:
- Snooze : Snooze the message.
- Add to Tasks : Create a task based off the message in Google Tasks.
- Create event : Create and insert an event in the message.
- Label as : Add or remove a label.
- Filter messages like these : Create a new filter for messages from the sender.
- Mute : Mute the message.
Switch to the advanced toolbar
- To show more buttons in the toolbar, click More Switch to advanced toolbar.
- To return to the original toolbar, click More Switch to simple toolbar.
Tips: From your inbox, when you right-click a message, find additional buttons like:
- Reply : Reply to the message.
- Reply all : Reply to all recipients that received the message.
- Forward : Forward the message.
- Find emails from : Search for emails in your inbox from the sender.
Change buttons to text
- On your computer, open Gmail.
- In the top right, click Settings See all settings.
- Scroll down to the "Button labels" section.
- Select Text.
- At the bottom of the page, click Save changes.
Turn off hover actions
With hover actions, when you hover to the right of a message, you can archive, delete, snooze, or mark a message as read. You can turn hover actions off.
- On your computer, open Gmail.
- Click Settings See all settings.
- Scroll down to the "Hover actions" section.
- Select Disable hover actions.
- At the bottom of the page, click Save changes.
