Getting started with a Data Partner account

A Data Partner account is a special type of account in the Manufacturer Center that can be linked to any number of Client accounts and provide product data on behalf of them.

Link a client account with your Data Partner account

Brand owners must choose a data partner to work with, and send an account linking request by adding a data partner from their Manufacturer Center account.

Once you receive a linking request from a brand owner you wish to work with, approve it and add a unique identifier to the Client ID field.

Create and submit data

Once you’ve successfully linked your Data Partner and Client accounts, you can submit data via API or via a feed.

Uploading data to a Data Partner account follows nearly the same process and requirements as uploading data to a normal Manufacturer Center account. There are, however, a few requirements unique to data partner accounts.

1. Add the target client ID attribute

Make sure to submit the target client ID [target_client_id] attribute, and make sure that this matches the Client ID value you manually inputted for each manufacturer.

2. Ensure there are unique IDs within Data Partner accounts

IDs should be unique across the entire account. If you use the same ID for different products, they will overwrite each other.

You may work with multiple clients which use the same ID for their products. To ensure that the IDs are unique within the data partner account while unchanged in the client account, we recommend you upload data in the format "Client ID:Product ID". You may use any other identifiers instead of client ID as long as they can guarantee uniqueness within the account.

When the item is forwarded to the client account, the prefix will be removed and the product will be forwarded with the specified product ID only. For example, a product uploaded with ID "google:123" would be forwarded to the client account with ID "123".

3. Select destinations

When you submit feeds, you’ll be asked to specify the destinations.

  • Client export: Select clients export to have the product data copied to the client brand owner. From then on, it can be used by the brand owner as they see fit.
  • Shopping catalog for clients: It’s up to the clients to decide whether they target the Shopping catalog, and opting into this destination does not give you control over the decision. It will, however, give you diagnostic reporting that enables you to see if there are any issues that would prevent the clients from sending the data to the Shopping catalog and to learn how to fix them.
  • Shopping catalog for partners: Depending on your agreement with brands and with Google, you may specify this destination in order to contribute your data directly to Google’s product catalog with the need to link against a brand owner. Only select this destination if you have clear instructions to do so.
  • 3D experiences: Use this destination to provide 3D and augmented reality (AR) product models on Google Search for brands you work with.
