Will collecting product reviews through Google Customer Reviews impact the existing store rating for my site?
I implemented the new code for collecting product reviews. When will product ratings start surfacing with my ads?
Product ratings will begin surfacing on your Shopping ads as well as the Shopping tab when Google has successfully collected product reviews on your behalf. The process toward eligibility begins with Google receiving valid GTINs using the opt-in module for orders placed on your site.
Note that product ratings will only surface for any given product when Google has 3 reviews or more for that product. If a specific product you have provided a GTIN for doesn’t have product ratings surfacing, this may be because Google has not yet received sufficient reviews for that product. There may also be a delay between the point at which a product review is collected by Google Customer Reviews and the point at which it is displayed along with other product reviews in the product listing page for a given product.
Can I stop collecting product reviews through Google Customer Reviews if I don’t want to use this feature?
Yes, you’re not required to collect product reviews through Google Customer Reviews. If you want to stop using this feature at any point, you simply have to remove the "products" line of code from the opt-in module code snippet on your site. When you remove this line of code, we’ll no longer collect GTINs from orders placed on your site, and you’ll no longer receive product reviews from your shoppers.
Note that if you decide to stop collecting product reviews through Google Customer Reviews, product ratings will disappear from your Shopping ads and your product listings on the Shopping tab.
Find the opt-in module below and notice the highlighted line of code that you need to delete in order to stop collecting GTINs using Google Customer Reviews.
<!-- BEGIN GCR Opt-in Module Code -->
<script src="https://apis.google.com/js/platform.js?onload=renderOptIn"
async defer>
</script>
<script>
window.renderOptIn = function() {
window.gapi.load("surveyoptin", function() {
window.gapi.surveyoptin.render(
{
// REQUIRED
"merchant_id": "MERCHANT_ID",
"order_id": "ORDER_ID",
"email": "CUSTOMER_EMAIL",
"delivery_country": "COUNTRY_CODE",
"estimated_delivery_date": "YYYY-MM-DD",
// OPTIONAL
"opt_in_style": "OPT_IN_STYLE",
"products": [{"gtin":"GTIN1"}]
});
});
}
</script>
<!-- END GCR Opt-in Module Code →
If I decide to stop collecting product reviews using Google Customer Reviews, what happens to existing product reviews that have been collected from my store?
If you stop collecting product reviews using Google Customer Reviews, existing product reviews that have been collected from your site will continue to be displayed in the product listing page for each qualifying product. However, product ratings will disappear from your Shopping ads and your product listings on Google.
Can I stop collecting store ratings using Google Customer Reviews but still collect product ratings?
My website is still using the old Trusted Stores code snippets. Can I use this new product reviews feature?
If your site is still using the old Trusted Stores code snippets, you cannot use the new product reviews feature until you update your source code to use the new Google Customer Reviews code snippet. You must remove both the Trusted Stores opt-in module code and badge code from your site, and follow the instructions in the Google Customer Reviews technical integration guide to add the new opt-in module snippet and, if it applies, the new badge snippet to your site.
After doing so, you can follow the instructions below to start using the new product reviews feature:
1. In your site’s source code, find the new Google Customer Reviews opt-in module snippet.
2. Below the "opt_in_style" line, add the new "products" line.
// OPTIONAL
"opt_in_style": "OPT_IN_STYLE",
"products": [{"gtin":"GTIN1"}]
The line above specifies the products in a customer’s order as an array of JSON "gtin" objects inside a "products" array. This line has just one "gtin" object, so it will enable Google Customer Reviews to collect a single GTIN for an order, regardless of how many products are part of the order. To collect a GTIN for every product in an order, you’ll need to add code to your site to dynamically add a "gtin" object to the "products" array for every distinct product in the order.
For example, an order that includes 2 distinct products should have a snippet that looks like this:
// OPTIONAL
"opt_in_style": "OPT_IN_STYLE",
"products": [{"gtin":"GTIN1"}, {"gtin":"GTIN2"}]
An order that includes 3 distinct products should have a snippet that looks like this:
// OPTIONAL
"opt_in_style": "OPT_IN_STYLE",
"products": [{"gtin":"GTIN1"}, {"gtin":"GTIN2"}, {"gtin":"GTIN3"}]
3. After you have correctly implemented the new code on your site, we’ll start collecting GTINs from orders placed on your site and gathering product reviews from your shoppers.
