About sale price annotations

Promote your products and attract attention to your ads and free listings by showcasing sales. When your product is shown with sale price annotations, your sales stand out and potential customers can view how much they'll save.

How it works

Submit the original price for your item using the required price [price] attribute. When you lower the price of an item for a sale, you can submit the sale price using the optional sale price [sale_price] attribute. You can continue submitting the original price using the price [price] attribute, even during the time of the sale.

How it is shown

If the sale price and original base price meet certain conditions, both prices and sale price annotations will appear across different Google platforms like Google Search, Shopping ads and the Shopping tab. The sale price will be shown as the current price alongside the original price, which will show with a strikethrough. Your product will also be shown with a badge that highlights your sale. The specific colours used for annotations differ depending on where your product appears.

Requirements

For the sale price annotation to be shown on your free listings, Shopping ads and local inventory ads, you need to meet certain requirements:

Requirements for free listings

In Australia, Canada, United States and Japan

  • The sale price must be lower than the base price.
  • The discount of the sale must be greater than 5% and less than 90%.

In Brazil, France, Germany, India, Italy, Korea, the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom

  • The sale price must be lower than the base price.

Requirements for Shopping ads

In the United States

  • The sale price must be lower than the base price.
  • The discount of the sale must be greater than 5% and less than 90%.
  • The base price of the product must be valid for either duration below, whichever condition is met first:
    • 5 days within the past 30 days (doesn't need to be 5 consecutive days)
    • Or 15 days within the past 200 days (doesn't need to be 15 consecutive days)

In Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands, Spain and the UK

Note: Sale price annotations aren't always guaranteed to show, even if you meet the requirements above. This is because Google wants to ensure that the best performing annotations surface on your offers.

Requirements for local inventory ads

  • The base price must be provided in the primary feed and must match the store price in the inventory feed.

For your product to be shown with sale price annotations, you need to meet certain requirements:

  • The base price of the product must be valid for 30 days within the past 200 days (doesn't need to be 30 consecutive days).
    • Note: This requirement doesn't apply on free listings in the United States, Canada, Australia and Japan.
  • The sale price must be lower than the base price.
  • The discount of the sale must be greater than 5% and less than 90%.
  • For local inventory ads, the base price must be provided in the primary feed and must match the store price in the inventory feed.
Note: Sale price annotations are available on mobile devices and desktops. Google regularly validates the sale price on your website to ensure that useful and high-quality sale price annotations are surfaced on Google. Both sale price annotations and promotions allow merchants to highlight product sales in different ways. While the sale price [sale_price] is an attribute that can be submitted through the product feed, promotions are a supplemental feature that allow merchants to highlight special offers on their products. Learn more about the promotion types allowed.
