Edit your videos

In Google Photos, you can edit your videos with special effects, filters, and more from your mobile device.

What you need

Download and install the Google Photos app.

Some video editing features like crop, straighten, and filters are only available on Android devices with at least one GB of RAM that run on Android version 6.0 and later.

Edit your video

Enhance or change the speed of your video

Open the video you want to edit.
Tap Edit .
- To change the speed of your video: Tap Speed.
  - To select a portion of your video to change the speed, touch and hold, then drag the trim handles.
    - To speed your video up: Tap 2x or 4x.
    - To slow your video down: Tap ¼x or ½x.
- To improve the color and lighting in your video: Tap Enhance.
To save a copy of the video with your edits, at the bottom, tap Save copy.

Trim, Mute, Stabilize, or Export a still from your video

Open the video you want to edit.
Tap Edit .
- To trim the video to a different length: Tap and Drag the Trim Handles to select the portion of your video you want to keep.
  1. To save a copy of the video with your edits, at the bottom, tap Save copy.
- To mute your video: Tap Mute .
- To stabilize your video: Tap Stabilize .
- To export a frame from your video: Tap Export frame.

Open the video you want to edit.
Tap Edit Presets.
Select a preset.
Optional: To make modifications, tap the preset again.
- You can trim the total range of the video and the range of the video where the preset applies.
To save a copy of the video with your edits, at the bottom, tap Save copy.

Video presets

The following presets automatically trim your video to a highlight. In addition, each preset has additional effects.

Basic cut : Enhance colors.
Slow-mo : Slow-motion effects, and enhance colors.
Zoom : Focus on the key subject with automatic zoom, and enhance colors.
Track : Motion track the main subject throughout the video, and enhance colors.

Open the video you want to edit.
Tap Edit Crop.
- To crop the video to a different aspect ratio, like a square: Tap Aspect ratio .
- To change the video’s perspective:
  1. Tap Transform .
  2. Drag the dots to the edges of your video or tap Auto.
- To rotate a video 90 degrees, tap Rotate .
  - To make minor adjustments to straighten the video, use the dial above Rotate .
- To automatically straighten the video, tap Auto.
  - Tip: Auto straighten availability depends on the video.
To save a copy of the video with your edits, at the bottom, tap Save copy.

Adjust your video

Important: Your device must have at least 3 GB RAM and Android 8.0 and up.

Open the video you want to edit.
Tap Edit Adjust.
Select the type of effect you want to apply to your video and move the dial to make changes.
When you’re finished, tap Done.
To undo an adjustment, deselect the option or tap Cancel.

Video adjustments

To adjust the exposure, tap Brightness .
To adjust the difference in tones, tap Contrast .
To adjust the brightest value, tap White point .
To adjust the detail in the brightest areas, tap Highlights .
To adjust the detail in the darkest areas, tap Shadows .
To adjust the darkest value, tap Black point .
To adjust the intensity of colors, tap Saturation .
To adjust the color temperature, tap Warmth .
To adjust the hue, tap Tint .
To adjust the saturation of the skin-colored tones, tap Skin tone .
To adjust the saturation of the blue tones, like sky or water, tap Blue tone .
To reduce the brightness around the edges of the video, tap Vignette .
To enhance brightness and contrast across the video, tap HDR effect .

In the color filters section, you can apply the usual filters, like Palma or Metro, to your video.

Open the video you want to edit.
Tap Edit Filters.
Select a filter.
To change the strength of the filter on the video, tap the filter again and move the dial.
To undo a filter, select None.

Important: Your device must have at least 3 GB RAM and Android 8.0 and up.

Open the video you want to edit.
Tap Edit Effects.
Select an effect.
- To undo an effect, tapNone.
Tap Save copy.

Tip: Types of effects include:

B&W Film
Light leak
Lomo
Dust mix
Chromatic
Fish Eye

Draw on, add text, or highlight a video

Open the video you want to edit.
Tap Edit Markup.
- To draw, tap Pen .
- To add highlights, tap Highlighter .
- To add text, tap Text .
When you’re finished, tap Done.
To save a copy of the video with your edits, at the bottom, tap Save copy.
