You can set up a new Pixel device for your child. You can also supervise their account and choose the apps they can use.

Set up a Pixel device for your child

To set up a new Pixel device for your child

  1. On your Welcome screen, tap Get Started.
    • Important: When you’re prompted to transfer data from a previous device, tap Skip.
  2. Connect to Wi-Fi.
  3. When asked who the device will be set up for, select For my child.
  4. Tap Next.
  5. Sign in with your account.
  6. Set up your child’s account.
    • If you don’t have a child account: To create a Google account for your child, tap Let’s go.
    • If you have an existing child account: Select the child’s account.
    • If you want to add another child in your account: Tap Create account for my child.
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your child's account.

Manage parental controls

To manage your child’s account on your device, go to Get started with Family Link.

To set up parental controls
  1. On the Set up parental controls screen, tap Let’s do this.
  2. Review supervision settings for Google Play, Google Chrome, and Google Search filters on your child’s device.
    • Tip: To expand and choose settings, tap the Down arrow .
  3. When you’re done with the settings filters, tap Next.
  4. To manage apps on your child’s device, uncheck the apps you don’t want your child to use.
  5. Tap Next.
To manage screen time
  1. On the Set up Time Limits screen, tap Set up and then Continue.
  2. On the Set daily limits screen, set the amount of time your child spends on their device daily.
  3. Tap Next.
  4. On the Set downtime screen, set the time for when your child’s device locks.
  5. Tap Next.
To manage your child’s device settings with Family Link
  1. On the Google Family Link app, tap Install and then Next.
  2. To continue supervision set up for your child’s device, tap You got this.
  3. To set up features for Google services, tap More.
  4. Connect to a mobile network.
    • Tip: Insert your SIM card or download an eSIM for your child’s device.
  5. On the Additional legal terms screen, review the details then tap I accept.
  6. To set up Google Assistant on your child’s device, tap More.
  7. To complete the set up, tap Let’s go.

Tips:

  • To receive the latest news and product updates from Google, and share your feedback, under “Stay in the loop!,” check the box.
  • You can preview your child’s device. To navigate, tap Try it.

Customize your Pixel device with Family Space

The device comes with a default wallpaper and pre-set widgets for your child to use.

To add a Snapshot to your widget
  1. On your Home screen, swipe right.
  2. On the snapshot widget, tap Camera .
  3. Take a photo.
    • To confirm your photo: Tap Done .
    • To take another photo: Tap Undo .
    • To check your photo: Tap the photo framed.
To add a contact to your widget
  1. On your Home screen, swipe right.
  2. On the Contact widget, tap Chat .
  3. When the "Add phone number" dialog box appears, tap Add.
  4. To create a contact, add your contact details.
  5. At the top right, tap Save.
To add another Contact widget
  1. On your Home screen, swipe right.
  2. At the bottom right, tap Choose contact.
  3. Add your contact details.
