Switch from an Android to your new Pixel in a few simple steps, and pick up where you left off. The Google apps you use every day, like Gmail and Google Maps, are ready to go.
Step 1 of 5
Set up your new Pixel
Important: A Google Account is recommended. Otherwise, some existing apps won’t automatically download on your new Pixel.
Make sure you have the following:
- Your fully charged existing Android device on the latest software.
- Tip: Make sure that you turn on Bluetooth and Location Services .
- A strong Wi-Fi connection.
- Your new, fully charged Pixel.
- The SIM card tool that came with your Pixel (if applicable).
Step 2 of 5
Pair your phones
- Turn on your existing Android phone and your new Pixel.
- On your new Pixel, tap Get Started Pixel or Android device.
- On your existing Android phone, on the notification, tap Set up. Or, open your camera app manually.
- Tip: If you set up a phone for a child, tap Skip. Learn how to set up a child device.
- Pixel 8a, 8, and 8 Pro only: Scan the QR code.
- To scan the QR code on your new Pixel, use your existing Android phone.
- Continue setup on your new Pixel.
Step 3 of 5
Prepare your Pixel
Your new Pixel automatically connects to the same Wi-Fi network as your existing Android phone.
Important: If your existing Android phone isn’t connected to Wi-Fi, you’ll be prompted to connect to a Wi-Fi network on your Pixel.
- On your Pixel, enter your existing Android phone’s screen lock.
- Your Google Accounts begin to transfer to your Pixel.
- Set up your SIM.
- If available, you can download an eSIM from your carrier.
- To transfer your SIM card or eSIM to your Pixel, follow the on-screen instructions.
- Set up Fingerprint Unlock and Face Unlock.

Copy apps & data
Choose what data to copy from your existing Android device, including apps, photos, contacts, and more.
You can transfer:
- Apps and app data (for free and paid apps available on Google Play)
- Photos and videos
- Music and other audio
- Contacts stored on your phone or a SIM card
- Text messages (SMS and MMS)
- Multimedia in text messages
- Wi-Fi credentials
- Most phone settings (varies by phone and Android version)
- Wallpaper
- Call history
- Alarms
- Passwords from Google Password Manager (if you use the same Google account)
- Your subscription services, like Spotify or Fitbit (just sign in to the service on your Pixel)
- Ringtones
- Recordings (Pixel to Pixel only)
