Find Pixel Slate Keyboard shortcuts

Note: Pixel Slate Keyboard is no longer sold by Google.

You can use keyboard shortcuts on your Pixel Slate Keyboard to complete some tasks more quickly.

Tips:

  • To see all keyboard shortcuts, press Ctrl + Alt + ? on your Pixel Slate Keyboard.
  • To find shortcuts on this page, press Ctrl + f and enter what you're looking for.

Popular Pixel Slate Keyboard shortcuts

  • Open/close the Google Assistant: Press Launch assistant key
  • Search your device, apps, web and more: Press Search key
  • Open the status area on the bottom right of your screen (where the time appears): Press Status area ( Where your account picture shows )
  • Take a screenshot: Press Ctrl + Show all windows in Overview mode
    You can also take a screenshot by pressing the Power button + volume down button.
  • Take a partial screenshot: Press Ctrl + Shift + Show all windows in Overview mode, then click and drag
  • Turn Caps Lock on or off: Press Alt + Search
  • Lock your screen: Press Search Search keyL
  • Sign out of your Google Account: Press Ctrl + Shift + q (twice)

External keyboard

Note: If you’re using a Windows or Mac keyboard, use the Windows key or Command key in place of Search.

  • Open/close the Google Assistant on a Chrome OS-compatible keyboard: Search + a
  • Open/close the Google Assistant on a Mac/Windows-compatible keyboard: Command/Windows key + a

To change how a specific keyboard key works:

  1. In the bottom right corner of the screen, select the time. 
  2. Select Settings Settings.
  3. Under “Device,” choose Keyboard
  4. Change the function of a specific key. 

All other shortcuts

Tip: For quick access to emoji, handwriting, and voice input, add keyboard input options to your device's shelf.

  1. At the bottom right, select the time to open your status area.
  2. Select Settings Settings.
  3. Under "Languages and input," select Input method.
  4. Next to "Show input options in the shelf," tap the toggle to enable.
  5. Your keyboard type (for example, "US" for a US keyboard) will appear in a circle on the right side of your shelf. Select to see input options.
