Basic Safety

WARNING: HEALTH AND SAFETY INFORMATION

To avoid damaging your device, accessories or any connected devices, and to reduce the risk of personal injury, discomfort, property damage or other potential hazards, follow the precautions below and those found in the Jacquard Safety Information Safety, Warranty & Regulatory Manual at g.co/jacquard/info.

Handle your Jacquard Tag with care. You may damage the Jacquard Tag battery if you puncture, burn, deform, crush, drop, modify, attempt to insert foreign objects into or disassemble it. Do not bend the Jacquard Tag unnecessarily. Using a damaged Jacquard Tag may cause battery overheating or injury. Don’t expose your Jacquard Tag to liquids, which can cause a short circuit and overheating.

If the device gets wet, do not attempt to dry it using an external heat source. The Jacquard Tag is designed to work best in ambient temperatures between 32° to 95° F (0° to 35° C), and should be stored between ambient temperatures of -4° and 113° F (-20° and 45° C). Do not expose the Jacquard Tag to temperatures above 113° F (45° C), such as on a car dashboard or near a heating vent as this may damage the product, overheat the battery, or pose a risk of fire. Keep your Jacquard Tag away from heat sources and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. Do not leave your Jacquard Tag in the car interior or trunk during hot days for an extended period of time. If the Jacquard Tag gets wet, do not attempt to dry it using an external heat source. If the Jacquard Tag becomes too hot, disconnect it from its power source if it is plugged in, move it to a cooler place and don’t use it until it has cooled.

Contact customer service of the company that is providing the product incorporating the Jacquard Tag and do not use Jacquard if it isn’t working properly or has been damaged.

Repair & Service

Don’t attempt to repair the Jacquard Tag yourself. Disassembling the Jacquard Tag may result in loss of water resistance. Disassembling the Jacquard Tag may cause injury. Unauthorized repairs or modifications could result in permanent damage to the device, and if such repairs or modifications cause damage this may affect your warranty coverage and regulatory authorizations. For returns or customer service regarding the Jacquard Tag or the product using the Jacquard Tag, contact the company that is providing the product using the Jacquard Tag.

Battery

The Jacquard Tag contains a lithium-ion battery, which is a sensitive component that can cause injury if damaged. Do not attempt to remove the battery. For battery service contact the company that is providing the product using the Jacquard Tag. Replacement by non-qualified professionals can damage your device. Use of an unqualified battery or improper battery use may present a risk of fire, explosion, leakage, or other hazard. Dispose of your device, battery, and accessories according to local regulations. Do not dispose of them in normal household waste. Improper disposal may lead to fire, explosion, and/or other hazards.

Charging

You will need to charge the Jacquard Tag before use. Be sure the charger and Jacquard Tag are well ventilated when in use or while charging. Using damaged cables or chargers, or charging when moisture is present, can cause fire, electric shock, injury, or damage to the Jacquard Tag or other property. Avoid charging the Jacquard Tag in direct sunlight or in ambient temperatures above 95° F (35° C). Only charge the Jacquard Tag with any USB port compliant with USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 Type A standards, or a USB power adapter that has been certified with a limited power source or PS1 output per IEC 60950-1/IEC 62368-1, with output rated 5Vdc, 1A. Failure to use compatible charging accessories can cause fire, electric shock, injury, or damage to the device and the accessories.

Radio Frequency Interference

Observe rules that prohibit the use of wireless technology (e.g., cellular or Wi-Fi). Although Jacquard is designed, tested, and manufactured to comply with regulations governing radio frequency emissions, such emissions can negatively affect the operation of other electronic equipment. For example, while flying in an aircraft or immediately before boarding, use Jacquard only according to instructions provided by the airline. Use of a wireless device in an aircraft may disrupt wireless networks, present a hazard to aircraft operation, or be illegal. To disable Bluetooth, press and hold the power button located on your Jacquard Tag for 10 seconds to power-off the Jacquard Tag.

Medical Device Interference

Jacquard contains components and radios that emit electromagnetic fields and could interfere with pacemakers or other electronic medical devices. If you have a pacemaker or other implanted medical device(s), contact your physician or medical device manufacturer to make sure it’s okay to use Jacquard. If you have questions about using Jacquard with or near your pacemaker or other implanted medical device(s), consult your healthcare provider before using Jacquard. If you suspect Jacquard is interfering with your pacemaker or other implanted medical device(s), turn it off by removing the Jacquard Tag from the apparel or other Jacquard compatible device and consult your physician for information specific to your medical device(s).

Explosive Atmospheres

Do not charge, use, store, or transport your Jacquard Tag where flammables or explosives are stored (in gas stations, fuel depots, or chemical plants, for example). Do not use your wireless device where blasting operations are in progress, or in potentially explosive atmospheres such as in areas where the air contains high levels of flammable chemicals, vapors, or particles (such as grain, dust, or metal powders). Sparks in such areas could cause an explosion or fire resulting in bodily injury or even death. Observe all notices and signs where these hazards might be present.

Child safety

The Jacquard Tag may create a choking hazard. Do not leave Jacquard Tag within the reach of small children or allow them to play with it. They could hurt themselves or others. Consult a physician immediately if small parts are swallowed.

Proper Handling and Usage

Operating Temperatures

If the interior temperature of the Jacquard Tag exceeds or falls below normal operating temperatures, you may experience the following behaviors while the device tries to regulate its temperature: reduced battery performance and connectivity, inability to charge, lack of LED and vibration notification (for Jacquard compatible devices that support these functions) or device power down. You may not be able to use the device while it regulates its temperature. Move the device to a cooler (or warmer) location and wait a few minutes before attempting to use it again.

Care and Cleaning

Remove the Jacquard Tag before washing apparel or other Jacquard compatible device. Do not wash or dry the Jacquard Tag. To clean the Jacquard Tag wipe it with a soft dry or damp cloth. Do not use soaps, solvents or abrasives on the Jacquard Tag.

Water Resistance

The Jacquard Tag is resistant to rain and splashing, but it is not fully waterproof. You can use the Jacquard Tag in the rain, but if the Jacquard Tag or the electronics in the apparel or other Jacquard compatible device becomes too wet it may not reliably detect gestures or function correctly. Allow the Jacquard Tag, apparel, or other Jacquard compatible device to dry and resume using. Do not wash the Jacquard Tag or immerse it in liquid as doing so may damage the Jacquard Tag. The Jacquard Tag has a water protection rating of IP54 under IEC 60529. If your Jacquard Tag is damaged, water resistance may be compromised.

Age Limitation

Jacquard should not be used by children under the age of 13.

Storage

Fully charge the Jacquard Tag and store disconnected from the apparel or other Jacquard compatible device when not in use to maximize battery life.
