Override creative settings for Rich Media ads

Key-values let you customize the creative settings of a Rich Media ad running on your site without having to contact the advertiser. You can use key-values to dynamically change the look or functionality of a creative. There are many reasons to customize an ad's creative settings, such as setting different properties for a single creative so that it serves in one position on your home page and in another position on other site pages.

Once you insert key-value pairs into ad tags, you can use a preview URL to view how creatives will be served with your overrides applied to them. (See also Customize settings in ad tags.)

Key-values for overriding creative settings

The table below describes valid key-value pairs that you can use to override creative settings for a rich media ad when you traffic it. When you insert key-value pairs in ad tags, you must use the format key=value.

Key-value Description
ad_container_id=value Lets you specify the <div> that the rich media unit is served in. The <div> would otherwise be in a different location on the publisher page from where a Campaign Manager 360 tag is served.
breakoutiframe=false Tells a rich media ad not to attempt to break out of the iframe. This is useful when the ad is running, for example, on a site that is contained entirely in an iframe.
breakoutiframe=true Makes banner creatives break out of iframes like expanding and interstitial creatives.
mtfIFPath=path of the DARTIFrame.html file in the publisher's web server Path must start and end with / character.
mtfDuration=value Lets you specify the amount of time during a visit, in seconds, that the interstitial creative runs in a web page. Uses auto, none, or positive integer.

Note: You can only override this creative setting for interstitial creatives.
mtfLeft=value

Lets you specify the distance of the interstitial ad, in pixels or as a percentage, from the left edge of a web page in a browser window. Uses values from -1500 to 1500 as px, pct, or pxc.

Notes

  • You can only override this value for interstitial creatives.
  • For ads with interstitial creatives, you can append px, pct, or pxc after the integer to specify whether the positioning is determined by pixels or as a percentage.
  • For example, if you use the key-value mtfLeft=40pct, the interstitial ad is displayed a distance of 40 percent from the left edge of the web page in a user's browser window.
  • If you do not specify px, pct, or pxc after the integer, pixels are the unit of measure by default.
mtfTop=value

Lets you specify the distance of an interstitial ad, in pixels or as a percentage, from the top edge of a web page in a browser window. Uses values from -1500 to 1500 as px, pct, or pxc.

Notes

  • You can only override this value for interstitial creatives.
  • For ads with interstitial creatives, you can append px or pct after the integer to specify whether the positioning is determined by pixels or as a percentage.
  • For example, if you use the key-value mtfTop=40pct, the interstitial ad is displayed a distance of 40 percent below the top edge of the web page in the user's browser window.
  • If you do not specify px or pct after the integer, pixels are the unit of measure by default.

Example of overriding creative settings with key-values: A Campaign Manager 360 trafficker has specified the following creative settings for a rich media ad:

  • the ad is positioned 50 pixels from the top edge of the page
  • the ad is positioned 50 pixels from the left edge of the page
  • the ad runs for 20 seconds
  • the Java applets are displayed.

Based on these creative settings, you obtain an ad tag for the ad that looks like this:

http://ad.doubleclick.net/adi/N270.maheshdfasite/B3140338.2;dcopt=1_ist;sz=0x0;ord=[timestamp]?

After you obtain the ad tag you decide that you want to override the Campaign Manager 360 trafficker's creative settings so that:

  • the ad is positioned to be 60 pixels from the top edge of the web page
  • the ad is positioned to be 10 percent from the left edge of the web page
  • the ad runs for 30 seconds
  • the Java applets are hidden.

To do this, override the creative settings in the ad tag like this:

http://ad.doubleclick.net/adi/N270.maheshdfasite/B3140338.2;dcopt=1_ist;mtfTop=60;mtfLeft=10pct;mtfDuration=30;hideApplets=true;sz=0x0;ord=[timestamp]?
Key-values for overriding the position of a reminder asset
Key-value Description
mtfRenderFloatInplace=true/false Positions an ad relative to the ad container specified in a tag. Default is false. If it's set to true, the ad's div appends to its container div, not to the page, and calculation of the ad's position starts at the top-left corner of the container. This only applies to interstitial formats.
