Traffic publisher-paid placements

Publisher-paid placements use the publisher as a payment source. In this case, the publisher pays the ad serving costs associated with ads delivered to the placement. Google bills publishers directly for these costs. These are called publisher-paid placements.

  1. In your campaign view, click New > Placement.

Is your publisher-paid placement already set up? Then you can skip these steps and follow the send tags workflow to export tags and send them to publishers for approval.

  2. Select a site that accepts publisher-paid tags.

Before you select your site, make sure it's eligible for publisher-paid placements in Campaign Manager 360. Click the Attributes filter and select Accepts publisher-paid tags. If your site disappears when you add this filter, it's not eligible.

    I can't find the site I need

Follow these steps to figure out if your site is available. If needed, you can quickly add the site yourself in Campaign Manager 360!

    1. To start, Campaign Manager 360 shows you all the sites that are mapped to your Campaign Manager 360 campaign. Let's start here before we broaden our search:

Scroll through this site list. To narrow your results, enter the site URL or site name in the search box and hit enter.

    2. If you don't see your site, trying clicking All above your site list. This expands your site list to all the sites in your Campaign Manager 360 account. Or, try filtering by Site in the search bar at the top right and selecting one or all sites.

    3. Still no luck? Click Site Directory above your site list. This expands your list to the whole Site Directory.

The Site Directory is a comprehensive list of websites that accept display advertising. All the sites that appear in your campaign or account list are based on this directory. They stay synced with the Site Directory so that your account and campaigns always have accurate information.

    4. If you still can't find your site, it's time to add it to the Site Directory:

      1. Make sure you still have Site Directory selected above your site list.

      2. Click the following link beneath your site list: Click here to add it to the Site Directory.

      3. Enter the site URL and site name and click Add site.

Don't add your site unless you're certain it's not anywhere else in the Site Directory. Multiple entries for the same site can cause confusion.

I found my site, but it doesn't accept publisher-paid tags.

A site is only eligible for publisher-paid placements if the publisher signs an agreement with Google Ad Manager payment in Campaign Manager 360. You may need to ask your account manager to help the publisher sign this new agreement.

Connect your publisher with your Google Marketing Platform Account Manager.

  3. In the Identification section, choose Publisher as the payment source. Now set up the rest of your placement and click Save.

  4. Make sure your placement is ready for your publishers: assign all the ads and creatives you need.

  5. Use Campaign Manager 360 to notify the publisher about your tags (click Tags > Send tags in your campaign view). If you need help, see our article on how to send tags.

  6. Now your tags will appear in the publisher's system (either Google Ad Manager or the Publisher Portal). The publisher must approve payment to access the tags. Campaign Manager 360 also sends the publisher an email with instructions.

Read-only placements

Publisher-paid placements will be read-only in Campaign Manager 360 if the publisher is not yet enabled for the Campaign Manager 360 Publisher Paid Program. These placements will become editable if the publisher signs up with an updated contract. Your account manager can help facilitate this process.

You can still generate tags and serve ads with read-only placements, but you cannot save any changes. You also cannot create new publisher-paid placements for any publisher that is not enabled for the Campaign Manager 360 Publisher Paid program.
