Relative paths in dynamic creatives

In your Dynamic Creative feeds, you can specify the relative path of a file stored in Asset Library instead of the entire path. This means that in Studio you can assign a relative path in the dynamic profile, which gets associated with the file names.

Use relative paths for Dynamic creatives

  1. On the "Assets" tab, upload your assets to Asset Library. See Manage assets in the Asset Library to learn how.

  2. Navigate to the parent folder you want to associate with your dynamic feed.

  3. Select the checkbox of any asset within the parent folder. The "Details" pane displays the Dynamic Path of that asset.

  4. Copy the URL at the bottom of the "Details" pane. You'll paste this into your dynamic profile in Step 8, below.

  5. In your dynamic feed, enter the direct file names under the column defined for your asset URLs. See Create your dynamic feed to learn how to add dynamic elements.

With relative paths, you only need to specify the file name. E.g., instead of
    DRM_Asset:My Advertiser/AssetLibraryPath/image2_burger.jpg

    you just need to specify:
    image2_burger.jpg

  6. Go to the "Dynamic Content" tab and upload your feed to Studio. See the Upload your feed Help Center article to learn how.

  7. After you upload your feed, select the correct data type for each asset library file name. See Set data types for your feed to learn how.

Data types for Asset Library relative paths are not assigned by default. For each column with Asset Library assets, you must select from the following:

    • Non-video assets: AssetLibrary path
    • Videos: AssetLibrary video file path
    • Directories: AssetLibrary directory path
  8. Paste the Asset Library root path into the "Asset Library default root path" field of your profile. (Remember, you copied the root path in Step 4, above.) Remove the filename from the end of the URL leaving the trailing slash.

For example, the dynamic path might be:
    DRM_Asset:My Advertiser/AssetLibraryPath/image2_burger.jpg

Remove the trailing file name so that the root path you'll paste into your dynamic profile will be:
    DRM_Asset:My Advertiser/AssetLibraryPath/

Valid formats for the Asset Library default root path, following this example:

    DRM_Asset:My Advertiser/Relative Path Showcase
    DRM_Directory:My Advertiser/Relative Path Showcase
    My Advertiser/Relative Path Showcase

  9. Click Transform to ingest the feed into Studio.

FAQs

Can I change the relative path after the feed is transformed? (e.g. What if my client wants to change the folder name?)

You cannot edit the root path once the feed is transformed. To change the root path, you have to upload a new feed by clicking Upload new content source file under "Content sources". You are then able to assign a new default root path.

Where can I see the root path I entered?

To find the root path on the Dynamic Content tab:

  1. Go to the appropriate advertiser and click the "Transformed content" tab.
  2. Click 'Content source'.
  3. The root path displays in the "Asset library base directory" field.

You can also find the root path when you click into an uploaded feed, or element:

  1. Go to the appropriate advertiser and click the "Elements" tab.
  2. Remember that a dynamic feed is also called an element once it's uploaded to Studio. Click the name of the feed, or element, that contains the root path you want.
  3. Find the AssetLibrary Path; you'll find the root path on that row in the "Sample value" column.

Can I mix relative paths with full, absolute paths?

Yes, you can use both relative and absolute paths even within the same column. For example, one value can be the relative path from the Asset Library and the other value can be the full dynamic path.
