Manage Google Ads sitelinks

Create a Google Ads sitelink in Search Ads 360

Search Ads 360 provides a few different ways to create and edit sitelinks:

  • Create and edit sitelinks in Search Ads 360.

  • Create and edit sitelinks using a bulksheet.
If you're creating or editing a large number of sitelinks, use a bulksheet. For example, you can use bulksheets to:

    • Make bulk edits to all sitelinks in an account. You can even use your spreadsheet's functions or macros to automate the edits.

    • Download sitelinks from one account, make some minor edits, and upload the sitelinks into a different Google Ads account.

  • Create and edit sitelinks in Google Ads and then sync the change into Search Ads 360.

Copy a Google Ads campaign to create sitelinks in the destination Google Ads campaign
If you copy a Google Ads campaign, sitelinks that are directly applied to the campaigns and ad groups in the source campaign are copied to the destination campaign. Account-level sitelinks, those that are set up to be inherited from the account, aren't copied to the destination campaign unless the account-level sitelinks are also directly applied to the campaign or ad group. If the account-level sitelinks are only inherited by the campaign or ad group, only the campaign and ad group sitelink settings are copied. Learn more about the settings that are copied.

Create a sitelink in Search Ads 360

  1. Navigate to a Google Ads account.

Steps for navigating to an engine account
    1. In the left navigation panel, click All accounts.
What if the left navigation pane isn't visible?

    2. Click the navigation bar to display navigation options.

    3. In the "Agency" list, click on the agency that contains the advertiser. You can search for an agency by name or scroll through the list.

    4. In the "Advertiser" list, click on the advertiser that contains the engine account.

    5. In the "Account" list, click on the engine account.

    6. Click Apply or press the Enter key.

Search Ads 360 displays the engine account page.

  2. Click the Extensions▼ tab and select Sitelinks.
The reporting table displays any sitelinks that have already been created in the account.

You can create sitelink extensions only at the account level. If you scope to a campaign or ad group, you can see the sitelinks that are applied to the campaign or ad group but you can't create new ones. Inherited (account-level) sitelinks also aren’t displayed at the campaign or ad group levels.
  3. Click + Sitelink extension, which appears above the reporting table.
The settings panel for the new sitelink appears.

  4. Enter settings for the sitelink

  5. Optional. Apply the sitelink to campaigns or ad groups if you don't want the campaign or ad group to inherit the account-level sitelinks.

    • To apply a sitelink to specific campaigns, under Campaigns, select the check box next to the campaign.

The campaign name is added to the list on the right.

    • To apply a sitelink to specific ad groups, under Ad groups, select the check box next to the ad group.

The ad group name is added to the list on the right.

The inheritance icon,   is shown in the list on the left when an campaign or ad group is already inheriting sitelinks. If you apply a sitelink to a campaign or ad group, any inherited sitelinks are removed from the campaign or ad group. Ad groups inherit sitelinks from campaigns by default, so you only need to apply sitelinks directly to an ad group if you want to override the inheritance.
  6. Click Save.
The new sitelink appears in the reporting table.

Sitelink settings

  • Sitelink text: Enter the additional text that appears in an ad and links to a specific page on your website.

    Character limit: 25 characters

  • Description 1 and Description 2 (Optional): Additional descriptive information about a sitelink that is displayed in an ad.
    Character limit: 35 characters each.

If you enter text in the Description 1 field, you are required to enter text in the Description 2 field also.
  • Sitelink URL: Enter the website that appears after a customer clicks the link.

  • Account level extension (Optional): Select this check box to set up an account-level sitelink  that will be inherited in all campaigns and ad groups that don't have a sitelink directly applied.  To inherit a sitelink, the campaign or ad group must also allow sitelinks to be displayed.

  • Mobile preferred (Optional):  Select this check box to indicate that the sitelink should only appear on mobile devices.
If a campaign or ad group contains only sitelinks set to Mobile preferred (not recommended), the sitelink may also appear on desktop and laptop computers and tablets.

  • URL template (Optional): Enter a Search Ads 360 URL template if you want to override a template specified at a higher level.

If the sitelink inherits a URL template that doesn't contain a URL placeholder, Google Ads ignores the higher-level template and directs clicks to the sitelink's final URL without applying the template. For example:

    1. You specify the following landing page URL for a sitelink:
      http://example.com/red-shoes
    2. You don't specify a URL template for a sitelink, but you do specify this URL template for a keyword:
      http://tracker.com?id=1234
    3. A search matches the keyword and Google Ads serves an ad along with the sitelink.
    4. A customer clicks the sitelink.
    5. Google Ads directs the click to http://example.com/red-shoes without applying the URL template inherited from the keyword.

If instead the keyword's URL template specified this:
    http://tracker.com?url={escapedlpurl}
Google Ads would apply the URL template, and the click would redirect to:
    http://tracker.com?url=http%3A%2F%2Fexample.com%2Fred-shoes

  • Custom parameters (Optional): Specify parameters to track additional information about the sitelink.

  • Start/end date (Optional):  Click the arrow to select a date to schedule the sitelink to be eligible to appear in ads.
