Manage parameter handling in clickserver URLs

Parameter handling options in accounts without shared templates

Note: This article doesn't apply to social and engine track accounts, or search accounts that support shared templates. In these accounts, clickserver URLs always contain the final URL (including any static and dynamic parameters defined in the URL or in a URL template), plus the URL parameters Search Ads 360 needs to track activity.

Here are the parameter-handling options you can choose for an engine account.

Not sure which option to choose? See Overview of parameter handling in clickserver URLs.

Option Description
Include only dynamic parameters (default) Search Ads 360 copies query strings with dynamic parameters from the keyword landing page URL and appends them to the clickserver URL.

Search Ads 360 retains the order of dynamic query strings and static query strings separately.

Example:

  1. You create this landing page URL for a keyword:
    https://example.com?staticQuery=1&dynamic={MatchType}&anotherStaticQuery=2

  2. Search Ads 360 generates and traffics the following clickserver URL (note that only the dynamic parameter has been added):
    https://clickserve.dartsearch.net/link/click?lid=43700001234567890&ds_s_kwgid=58700000012345678
    &ds_e_adid={AdId}&ds_url_v=2&dynamic={MatchType}
  3. When a customer clicks on an ad, the engine supplies a value for {MatchType} and redirects to the clickserver URL:
    https://clickserve.dartsearch.net/link/click?lid=43700001234567890&ds_s_kwgid=58700000012345678
    &ds_e_adid={AdId}&ds_url_v=2&dynamic=b

  4. Search Ads 360 redirects to the following, final landing page URL, substituting the value supplied by the engine and retaining the order of the static and dynamic query strings separately:
    https://example.com?staticQuery=1&anotherStaticQuery=2&dynamic=b

Include all parameters (not full URL) Search Ads 360 copies query strings with dynamic and static parameters from the keyword landing page URL and appends them to the clickserver URL.

Search Ads 360 retains the order of all query strings.

Example:

  1. You create this landing page URL for a keyword:
    https://example.com?staticQuery=1&dynamic={MatchType}&anotherStaticQuery=2

  2. Search Ads 360 generates and traffics the following clickserver URL (note that the static parameters have been added as well as the dynamic parameter, and in the same order as the landing page URL):
    https://clickserve.dartsearch.net/link/click?lid=43700001234567890&ds_s_kwgid=58700000012345678
    &ds_e_adid={AdId}&ds_url_v=2?staticQuery=1&dynamic={MatchType}&anotherStaticQuery=2
  3. When a customer clicks on an ad, the engine supplies a value for {MatchType} and redirects to the clickserver URL:
    https://clickserve.dartsearch.net/link/click?lid=43700001234567890&ds_s_kwgid=58700000012345678
    &ds_e_adid={AdId}&ds_url_v=2?staticQuery=1&dynamic=b&anotherStaticQuery=2

  4. Search Ads 360 redirects to the following, final landing page URL, substituting the value supplied by the engine and retaining the order of the static and dynamic query strings separately:
    https://example.com?staticQuery=1&dynamic=b&anotherStaticQuery=2

Include full URL (unencoded) Search Ads 360 copies the entire landing page URL to the ds_dest_url. Search Ads 360 retains the order of all query strings.

Important:
If you use this option for keyword landing pages that do not include query strings, be sure to add ? to the end of each landing page URL. This enables third party tools to append any additional custom parameters by just using & correctly.

Example:

  1. You create this landing page URL for a keyword:
    https://example.com?staticQuery=1&dynamic={MatchType}&anotherStaticQuery=2

  2. Search Ads 360 generates and traffics the following clickserver URL:
    https://clickserve.dartsearch.net/link/click?lid=43700001234567890&ds_s_kwgid=58700000012345678
    &ds_e_adid={AdId}&ds_url_v=2&ds_dest_url=https://
    example.com?staticQuery=1&dynamic={MatchType}&anotherStaticQuery=2

  3. When a customer clicks on an ad, the engine supplies a value for {MatchType} and redirects to the clickserver URL:
    https://clickserve.dartsearch.net/link/click?lid=43700001234567890&ds_s_kwgid=58700000012345678
    &ds_e_adid={AdId}&ds_url_v=2&ds_dest_url=https://
    example.com?staticQuery=1&dynamic=b
    &anotherStaticQuery=2

  4. Search Ads 360 redirects to the URL that the engine specified in the ds_dest_url query string:
    https://example.com?staticQuery=1&dynamic=b&anotherStaticQuery=2
