Create a location target template for campaigns

Google Ads and Microsoft Advertising only

By default, ads in Google Ads campaigns can appear anywhere in the world. Campaigns in Microsoft Advertising target the United States and Canada by default.

A location template specifies geographic locations where ads in a campaign can appear. The template can also specify bid adjustments for specific locations. You can reuse a location template in any campaign template within an inventory plan that targets a Google Ads or Microsoft Advertising engine account.

If you apply more than one location template to a campaign template,  Search Ads 360 only uses one of the location templates.

Examples of using location templates:

  • You have patterns of geographic targeting that repeat in several types of campaigns. For example, one pattern increases bids by 20% in Boston and New York city, and increases bids by 10% in the rest of New England and New York state. Instead of repeating this pattern in each campaign template, you create a location template and add the template to your campaigns.

If you update the location template, all of the campaigns using the template will be updated the next time Search Ads 360 evaluates the inventory plan.

  • In a specific sales region, you have a temporary promotion that affects many types of campaigns. Instead of updating each campaign template with the temporary location targets, you create a location template and add it to your campaign templates. When the sale is over, you can remove the location templates from the campaign templates.

Create a location template

  1. Navigate to an advertiser.
Steps for navigating to an advertiser
    1. Click the navigation bar to display navigation options.

    2. In the "Agency" list, click on the agency that contains the advertiser. You can search for an agency by name or scroll through the list.

    3. In the "Advertiser" list, click on the advertiser.

    4. Click Apply or press the Enter key.

Search Ads 360 displays the advertiser page, which contains data for all of the advertiser’s engine accounts.

  2. In the left navigation panel, click Templates.
  3. Click the Inventory management tab and click the name of an inventory plan that targets a Google Ads or Microsoft Advertising engine account.
  4. In a row that contains a campaign, click + and select Location target.
Click + and select Location target.
  5. Enter a name for the template. The name appears in the reporting table for the inventory plan.
  6. Click Next.
  7. In the Search box, enter a location using a country, metro, city, or province geo code. For areas in the US, you can also enter a 5-digit ZIP code, and for the UK, Germany, and India, you can enter a 5-digit postal code.
  8. Select the location, and then click Include or Exclude.
  9. Optional. In the Included list on the right, choose to increase or decrease the bid adjustment.

To increase the bid for a location, specify a number (which is the bid adjustment percentage), from 0 to 900. A value of 0 makes no adjustment to the default bid.

To decrease the bid for a location, select Increase by , click Decrease by and enter a number from 0 to 90.

  10. Click Save template.

Search Ads 360 saves the template. The template won't be applied to the plan's inventory data until you change its status to Active.

Use existing location templates

If you've already created a location template for a campaign template in the current plan, do the following to reuse the template in another campaign template:
