To capture valuable insights while protecting user privacy, you need to collect consent from your website users. We recommend you use a Consent Management Platform (CMP) or work with your Content Management System (CMS) to collect consent and send it to Google.

Step 1: Set up a consent banner
If you haven’t created a Usercentrics account, you can sign sign up using your Google Ads account for easy setup. Once your account is created, select a configuration name, and the legal framework for which you want to create the consent banner. Learn more about the Usercentrics CMP.
- Sign into your Usercentrics account.
- Navigate to the “Configuration” tab.
- Select languages and your legal settings. Google consent mode is enabled by default. The DPS Scanner, which can be activated in the “Services tab”, identifies third-party services, like cookies and other trackers, in use on your site, and provides suggested categorizations.
- Select the Data Processing Services (DPS) relevant to your site, then customize the design and content of your consent banner from the “Appearance and Content” tabs.
- If you use Google Tag Manager and want to deploy Usercentrics CMP through it, continue with the installation of the Tag Manager template.
- If you want to continue with direct implementation, review the instructions to copy the CMP script in the last step of the onboarding flow and embed it in the head of your website. Make sure that you customize the DPS script implemented on your site from step 3.
Step 2: Set up consent mode
To implement consent mode, review the implementation example provided by Usercentrics. If you use the Usercentrics Google Tag Manager template, note that there won’t be any additional setup.
