Your watch won't stay connected

When your watch and phone aren’t connected, you’ll see Disconnected Disconnect. If they won’t stay connected, try the steps below.

Important: The steps below are for Wear OS and may vary based on your manufacturer, device, and software version.

Fix your watch connection

First, move your watch and phone closer together.

If that step doesn't work, try the steps below until you fix the issue.

Check that the Wear OS app is running

  1. On your iPhone, open the Wear OS app Wear OS by Google or the companion app for your device.
  2. Return to your home screen. Use your phone as usual. For best results, do not close the app.
Check your phone's Bluetooth connection
  1. On your iPhone, open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Bluetooth.
  3. Check that Bluetooth is turned on.
Make sure your watch isn't in Airplane mode
  1. If your screen is dim, tap it to wake up the watch.
  2. Swipe down from the top of the screen.
  3. Tap Settings Settings.
    • On some watches, you need to swipe left to see this option.
  4. Tap Connectivity.
    • If you don't see this option, skip this step.
  5. Scroll down until you find Airplane mode.
  6. Check that Airplane mode is turned off.
Make sure your devices & app are up to date

Check for iPhone updates

  1. On your iPhone, open the Settings app.
  2. Tap General and then Software Update.
  3. If there's an update available, tap to install.

Check for Wear OS app updates

  1. On your iPhone, open the App Store app.
  2. At the bottom right, tap Updates.
  3. If the Wear OS app needs to be updated, you'll find it under "Pending Updates."
    • If it's there, tap Update.
    • If it's not there, it's already updated.

Restart your watch & iPhone
  1. If your screen is dim, tap it to wake up the watch.
  2. Swipe down from the top of the screen.
  3. Tap Settings Settings.
    • On some watches, you need to swipe left to see this option.
  4. Tap System.
  5. Scroll down and tap Restart Restart and then Done Done.
  6. Restart your iPhone.
Reset your watch to factory settings

If the steps above didn’t work, try the steps below.

Note: When you reset your watch to factory settings, all apps, settings, and data on your watch are erased.

Disconnect & reset your watch

  1. If your screen is dim, tap it to wake up the watch.
  2. From the top of the screen, swipe down.
  3. Tap Settings Settings.
    • On some watches, you need to swipe left to see this option.
  4. Tap System.
  5. Scroll down and tap Disconnect and reset Disconnect and reset.
    • If you don't see this option, tap Unpair with phone Disconnect and reset.
  6. To confirm, tap Done Done.

Remove your watch from Bluetooth memory

  1. On your iPhone, open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Bluetooth.
  3. Next to the device you want to forget, tap Information Information and then Forget this device and then Forget device.

Set up your watch & phone again

  1. On your iPhone, open the Wear OS app Wear OS by Google or the companion app for your device.
  2. At the top left, tap Menu Menu and then Set up a new watch.
  3. Follow the instructions to finish setting up your watch.
