Google app won't display search results

If you don’t get search results in the Google app, you might need to change some settings. You can resolve errors like:

  • "Unfortunately Google Search has stopped working."
  • "The request was not performed because there was no connectivity."

Follow these steps to try to resolve your problem.

Tip: Settings might vary by device.

Step 1: Try to fix your Internet connection

1. Make sure your device isn't in Airplane mode

Airplane mode turns off Wi-Fi and mobile networks. If there’s an airplane icon at the top of your screen, Airplane mode is on.

To turn off Airplane mode:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Turn off "Airplane mode."

To check if you get results, try your search again.

2. Check your Wi-Fi connection

If you use Wi-Fi to connect to the Internet, you might need to adjust your Wi-Fi settings.

To turn on Wi-Fi:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Wi-Fi.
  3. Turn on "Wi-Fi."
  4. Choose a network and enter a password, if asked.

A Wi-Fi icon should appear at the top of your screen. To check if you get results, try your search again.

If you don't get results, try these steps:

  • If Wi-Fi is turned on but you aren’t connected or you get the alert "No Internet Connection on the Wi-Fi setting:”
    • Make sure you've chosen the right network.
    • If you're on a public network, you might need a password. In your browser, open a webpage to get a sign-in screen.
    • If the modem is yours, restart it. If that doesn't work, contact your Internet provider.
  • If the Wi-Fi icon is partially filled or blinks:
    • Make sure you've chosen the right network.
    • If you know where the router is, to get a stronger signal, move closer to it.
    • If the router is yours, restart it.

If the Wi-Fi still doesn't work, you might need to use a mobile data connection instead. Turn off Wi-Fi and try your search again.

3. Check your mobile data connection

When Wi-Fi isn't available, you can connect to the Internet with mobile data.

To check your mobile data connection: Open your browser and go to any webpage. If the page doesn't load, follow the steps below.

To turn on mobile data:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Cellular.
  3. Turn on Cellular data. If it was already on, turn it off and on again.

At the top of your screen, you should find your signal strength and type of data connection (like LTE). To check if you get results, try your search again.

If you don't get results or you get a no-signal icon, try these steps:

1. Go to an area with better coverage.

Some underground and rural locations don't have connections. Try to connect in a different area.

2. Contact your mobile service provider.

If your device often has problems with connections, contact your service provider.

Step 2: Try to fix the Google app

1. Restart the Google app
  1. On an iPhone X and up, an iPad with iOS 12 and up, or iPadOS: From the Home screen, swipe up and pause slightly in the middle of the screen.
On an iPhone 8 or lower: To show your most recently used apps, double-click the Home button.
  2. To find the app you want to close, swipe right or left.
  3. To close the app, swipe up on the app's preview.
  4. To restart, tap the app’s preview.

To check if you get results, try your search again.

2. Restart your device
Restart your device and try your search again.
3. Update the Google app

If you're able to connect to the Internet, update the Google app to the latest version.

To check if you get results, try your search again.

Keep in mind that many problems resolve on their own. If you followed these steps and search results still don't show up, try again in a few hours.
