Common examples of mappings

For migrations from Google Workspace

Below are common examples of mappings that you might use when migrating data from Google Workspace using Google Workspace Migrate.

In the following examples, the source domain is example.com and the target domain is solarmora.com.

Line breaks for page formatting only

Google Drive examples

Example 1: Migrate a user's My Drive content from a source to a target domain

Source GUser Source GService Target GUser Target GService
[email protected] GDrive [email protected] GDrive

Source GUser Source GDrive Target GUser Target GDrive
[email protected] GMyDrive [email protected] GMyDrive

Example 2: Migrate a user's My Drive folder from a source to a target domain

Source GUser Source GFolder Target GUser Target GDrive
[email protected] BDEz2zFb [email protected] GMyDrive

Example 3: Migrate a user's My Drive folder to a specific folder in the target domain

Source GUser Source GFolder Target GUser Target GFolder MapChildrenOnly
[email protected] BDEz2zFb user1@ solarmora.com ADEz25zFa TRUE

Example 4: Migrate orphaned items in Drive from the source account

In this example, you are migrating orphaned content (content that is unorganized or residing in folders that the user doesn't own) to a new folder on the target account called orphan_items

MapChildrenOnly is one word. Line breaks are for page formatting only.

Source GUser Source GDrive Target GUser Target GDrive MapChildren Only Target Sub Path
user1@ example.com GOrphaned Content user1@ solarmora.com GMyDrive TRUE orphan_items

In this example, you are migrating orphaned items to the user's Drive account. If you aren't sure if the source user has orphaned items or not, follow this example.

Source GUser Source GService Target GUser Target GService
[email protected] GDrive [email protected] GDrive

Shared drive examples

Example 1: Migrate a shared drive to a target shared drive

In this example, Google Workspace Migrate creates the target shared drive in the migration process. After migration, the target shared drive has the same name as the source shared drive.

Source GUser Source GSharedDrive Target GUser Target GDrive
[email protected] 0AG_zVnxU9 [email protected] GSharedDrives

Example 2: Migrate a shared drive to a newly created target shared drive

In this example, Google Workspace Migrate creates the target shared drive in the migration process. After migration, the target shared drive has a different name than the source shared drive.

Source GUser Source GSharedDrive Target GUser Target GDrive Target Sub Path MapChildren Only
[email protected] 0AG_zVnxU9 user1@ solarmora.com GSharedDrives Project TRUE

Example 3: Migrate a shared drive to a target shared drive you already created

In this example, you manually create the target shared drive before the migration process.

Source GUser Source GSharedDrive Target GUser Target GSharedDrive MapChildrenOnly
user1@ example.com BDEz2zFb user1@ solarmora.com ADEz25J3DzFa TRUE

Google Groups example

Example: Migrate a group in Google Groups from the source to the target account

In this example, you are migrating the source group's data to the target group. You must also use an identity mapping. To migrate group members, specify the source and target groups' and users' email addresses in the identity mapping.

Source GGroup Target GGroup
[email protected] [email protected]
