Find and manage claimed videos

These features are only available to partners who use YouTube Studio Content Manager.

When Content ID finds a video that matches your asset’s reference file, a claim is created. A claimed video is a video that has one or more claims on it.

In Studio Content Manager, you can view a list of your claimed videos and filter the list to find specific videos. To manage your claimed videos, you can update them individually or in bulk, manage their claims, and export data about them.

Find claimed videos

You can segment your claimed videos list by source, then apply filters of your choosing to find the claimed videos you’re looking for. To find claimed videos:

  1. Sign in to Studio Content Manager.
  2. From the left menu, select Claimed videos .
  3. In the filter bar , click Source  to select the source of the claimed videos:
    • Other parties' videos: Videos that you claimed
    • Partner provided videos: Videos uploaded by channels linked to a content owner
  4. Click the filter bar  and select one or more filters, such as:
    • Claim status: Learn more about claim statuses.
    • Claim type: To filter by whether the claim was for the audio, visual, or audio visual.
    • Latest claim created / Latest claim updated: To filter by date when your last claim on a given video was created or updated.
    • Number of my claims / Number of my active claims / Number of my inactive claims: To find videos with more than one claim.
    • Publish date: To filter by the publishing date of the claimed video.
  5. Enter a value and then APPLY.

Find Shorts with claims

Vertical videos that are between 1-3 minutes in length will be blocked if they contain a claim. To find claims on your Shorts,

  1. Sign in to Studio Content Manager.
  2. Tap Content and then Shorts
  3. Videos with  “Copyright” labels contain copyrighted material and are blocked. Tap on the icon to get more information about the block.

Manage claimed videos

To manage your claimed videos, you can update them individually or in bulk, manage their claims, and export data about them.

Update claimed videos
To edit the claim type, update the applied policy, or release claims on one or more claimed videos:
  1. Follow the steps above to find claimed videos you’re interested in.
  2. Click one or more checkboxes next to the claimed videos you want to update.
    • To select individual claimed videos, check their boxes in the left column.
    • To select all claimed videos on a single page, check the "Select all" box at the top.
    • To select all claimed videos on all pages, check the "Select All" box at the top and then Select all matching.
  3. From the top banner, click Edit and select an action:
    • Claim type: Specifies whether you claim the audio content (Audio), video content (Visual), or both (Audio Visual).
    • Update claimed video policy: Updates the policy applied to the claimed video.
    • Release claims: Releases the selected claims.
  4. Choose the setting for your selected action.
    • If you selected Claim type or Update claimed video policy, select either:
      • Update all your claims on selected videos: If the videos have multiple claims, your selected action will be applied to all the videos you selected.
      • Update only your claims on selected videos that match filters: Only available if you’ve applied additional filters to your claimed videos list.
        • Example: If you only want to update the manual claims on your claimed videos, apply the filter Origin and then Manual Claim. When you choose the setting Update only your claims on selected videos that match filters, only the manual claims on the videos you selected will get updated.
    • If you selected Release claims, select either:
      • Release all your claims on selected videos: If the videos have multiple claims, all claims will be released on all the videos you selected.
      • Release only your claims on selected videos that match filters: Only available if you’ve applied additional filters to your claimed videos list.
        • Example: If you only want to release the manual claims on your claimed videos, apply the filter Origin and then Manual Claim. When you choose the setting Release only your claims on selected videos that match filters, only the manual claims on the videos you selected will release.
  5. Click UPDATE CLAIMED VIDEOS.
Manage claims on claimed videos
  1. Follow the steps above to find claimed videos you’re interested in.
  2. Click a claimed video. A details page will open and show an overview of that video’s claims, organized by claim status.
    • Note: You can also click the History tab to view past activity.
  3. Under Claims on video, click DETAILS to view more details about the claims on the video.
  4. Depending on the claim status, the following actions may be available:
    • Release a claim: Select RELEASE (#) CLAIM(S) to remove one or more claims from the video.
    • Release and exclude claim: Click the arrow and then next to RELEASE CLAIM. Select Release and exclude claim to release the claim and exclude part of the reference that created the claim.
    • Submit a takedown request: Click TAKEDOWN CLAIMED VIDEO to submit a copyright takedown request to YouTube to request a removal of the video.
    • Change the claim policy: Click the Policy tab then click SET CLAIMED VIDEO SPECIFIC POLICY.
      • To set an existing policy, select the policy from the list, then click APPLY.
      • To set a new policy, click SET CUSTOM POLICY, create your policy, then click SAVE and then APPLY.
    • Reopen the claim: Sometimes you can reopen inactive claims by clicking RECLAIM (#) CLAIM(S). For example, in some cases you can reclaim manually closed claims and expired potential claims.
      • Note: You can’t reopen claims that were manually released in the dispute process.

Note: It is not possible to change the distribution setting for videos uploaded by other channels. Learn how to change video distribution for your own videos.
Export data about claimed videos

You can export a maximum of 1 million claimed videos at a time. To export a file containing claimed videos data:

  1. Follow the steps above to find the claimed videos you’re interested in.
  2. Click one or more checkboxes next to the claimed videos you want to export data about.
    • To select individual claimed videos, check their boxes in the left column.
    • To select all claimed videos on a single page, check the "Select all" box at the top.
    • To select all claimed videos on all pages, check the "Select All" box at the top and then Select all matching.
  3. In the top banner, click Export and select:
    • Claimed videos (.csv) or Claimed videos (Google Sheets) to export a list of claimed videos with one claimed video per row.
    • Claims (.csv) or Claims (Google Sheets) to export a list of claims with one claim per row.
  4. The file will begin processing. You can navigate away from the page or perform other bulk actions while the file is processing.
  5. When the file is done processing:
    • For a .csv file: Click DOWNLOAD from the top banner.
    • For a Google Sheets file: Click OPEN SHEETS IN NEW WINDOW from the top banner.
