Accessibility on YouTube TV

The YouTube TV app works with certain accessibility features. Accessibility support is available for blind and low vision members via the TalkBack and BrailleBack apps. 

Use YouTube TV on your computer 

Getting started

  • You can use YouTube TV on a web browser on your computer. Detailed instructions for signing up and using YouTube TV can be found in the Help Center article sign up & customize YouTube TV.

  • Once you've signed up, go to YouTube TV on your computer or open the app to get started. You'll be asked to sign in to the Google Account associated with your membership if you aren't already signed in.

Navigate the app

The main tabs in YouTube TV are Home, Library, and Live. You must be signed in to your account to see these tabs.
  • The Home tab is where you'll find recommendations for what to watch on YouTube TV. These recommendations are based on your watch history on YouTube TV and YouTube. You'll see a combination of live TV shows, on-demand programs, and YouTube videos.
  • Live is where you can scroll through networks (for example, Fox) to see which programs are on right now. Select any program to watch the live airing.
  • The Library tab is where you'll go to watch recordings for programs you've saved. 

Note: You can scroll both vertically and horizontally in YouTube TV. Vertical scrolling will show you different types of programs and categories. You can scroll horizontally by clicking the arrow. Horizontal scrolling will show you related programs on a specific topic, like sports.

Sign into your account

  1. Sign in to your Google Account to sign in to YouTube TV. Sign in by visiting accounts.google.com or by visiting tv.youtube.com.
  2. In YouTube TV, select Sign in.
  3. Select the Google Account associated with your membership.
  4. Enter your password and any other verification information required.

Sign out of your account

  1. Sign out of your Google Account to sign out of YouTube TV. Sign out by visiting accounts.google.com or by visiting tv.youtube.com.
  2. In YouTube TV, click your profile picture.
  3. Select your account username again.
  4. The option to sign out will appear at the bottom of a dropdown menu.

Search for shows, events, and movies

In the search bar, you can search for shows, movies, sports teams, and more. 

To search:

  • From any screen, select the search field.
  • Type a search term into the Search field, and hit enter.

Turn on closed captions

Note: Some content owners may not have provided closed captions. If the content provider hasn't included captions, YouTube TV won't show any closed captions, even if this setting is turned on. 
  • If closed captions are available, you'll see CC next to the progress bar in the video player (on a web browser) or in More  in the upper right corner of the video player (on mobile devices).
  • Click the CC button. Make your selection from the list of available caption tracks to turn on captions. 
  • For on-demand programs, you can change how captions show in the video player (on a web browser) or within Settings  (on a mobile device). 
  • For live programs, closed captions are fixed—just like on broadcast TV—and you can't change how they show.
  • Closed captions are not available on the mini-player on your mobile device or in a collapsed view on a web browser. 

Use YouTube TV with our TV app 

Getting started

You can watch YouTube TV on your television with our app for TV. Detailed instructions for signing up and accessing YouTube TV can be found in the help center article sign up & customize YouTube TV.

Once you have signed up: 

  1. Navigate to the Google Play Store in your TV's app store or on a web browser.  
  2. Download the YouTube TV app on your TV. 
  3. Open the YouTube TV app on your TV or game console.
  4. Sign into your YouTube TV account to begin watching.

Sign into your account

  1. Open our TV app on your smart TV or game console. 
  2. Enter the Google account and password associated with your YouTube TV membership. 
  3. Select Sign in.

  1. Open our TV app on your smart TV or game console. 
  2. In the app, click on your profile picture.
  3. Select your account username again.
  4. The option to sign out will appear at the bottom of a dropdown menu.

Search for shows, events, and movies

To search:

  • Select the search field from any screen.
  • Type a search term into the Search field, and hit enter.

Turn on closed captions

Note: Some content owners may not have provided closed captions. If the content provider hasn't included captions, YouTube TV won't show any closed captions, even if this setting is turned on. 
  • If closed captions are available for a program, you'll see the CC button next to the progress bar in the video player or in the overflow menu  in the video player.
  • To turn on closed captions using your a smart TV device, hit down to pull up the player controls. Then, scroll to select the CC icon.
  • For on-demand programs, you can adjust how captions appear in the video player.
  • For live programs, closed captions are fixed—just like on broadcast TV—and you won't be able to adjust how they appear.
