Google is adding the Gemini app with enterprise-grade data protections as a core service to most Google Workspace editions. Additionally, Google is adding Google Vids as a core service to select editions of Google Workspace.
Previously, access to the Gemini app with enterprise-grade data protections and Google Vids required a Gemini for Google Workspace license. With this change, these new core services will be covered under your existing Google Workspace agreement and will include the same technical support as other Workspace services.
These changes will go into effect by the end of January 2025.

What is the Gemini app?
The Gemini app is the standalone chat experience available at gemini.google.com and in mobile apps on Android and iOS devices.
When this rollout is complete, there will be three tiers of the Gemini app for Google Workspace customers:
- Gemini app as an additional service. This no-cost tier will remain available to Google Workspace users without a qualifying Google Workspace edition. Users who access Gemini as an additional service are subject to the Google Terms of Service. Their chats may be reviewed by human reviewers and used to improve Google’s products, services, and machine-learning technologies.
- Gemini app with enterprise-grade data protections. This new tier is being added to most Google Workspace editions. Users who access Gemini as a core service are subject to the Google Workspace Terms of Service. Their chats and uploaded files won't be reviewed by human reviewers or otherwise be used to improve generative AI models.
- Gemini Advanced. Users who have a Gemini Business or Gemini Enterprise license will continue to get access to Gemini Advanced, which includes everything in the Gemini app with enterprise-grade data protections. In addition, it has the ability to upload and analyze files, use Gems, and provides access to Google's most capable AI models. Learn more.
Who will get the Gemini app with enterprise-grade data protections?
Users in most Google Workspace organizations will automatically gain access to the Gemini app with enterprise-grade data protections when it becomes a core service.
For existing Gemini for Workspace customers, we’re expanding access to the Gemini app as a core service to your users with a qualifying Google Workspace edition subject to the Google Workspace Terms of Service .
For all other Google Workspace customers, we’ll respect the new products service setting to determine whether to turn on the Gemini app as a core service for your users with a qualifying Google Workspace edition subject to the Google Workspace Terms of Service.
Note:
- If you have turned off the Gemini app for certain child organizational units or groups, the Gemini app as a core service subject to the Google Workspace Terms of Service will remain unavailable to these users until an admin turns it on.
- Gemini for Workspace licensed users will continue to receive access to Gemini Advanced.
Important: The Gemini app will remain unavailable if your organization has accepted the HIPAA Business Associate Amendment. The Gemini app doesn't support HIPAA at this time.
What is Google Vids?
Google Vids is an AI-powered video creation app that lets Google Workspace users create and collaborate with video, enabling a rich new medium for teams to tell engaging stories at work.
Previously, it was part of the Gemini for Google Workspace Alpha program. It will soon be available in select editions of Google Workspace.
Users will have full access to AI-powered features* in Google Vids like "Help me create" and AI voiceovers until at least December 31, 2025. Usage limits for these AI-powered features may apply beginning in 2026. We'll notify you before any change goes into effect.
* Vids generative AI features include Help me create, Generate a voiceover, Remove image backgrounds, Generate an image, and Recording studio read-along teleprompter .
Who will get Google Vids?
Users with select editions of Google Workspace will automatically get access to Google Vids when it becomes available as a core service.
How do I prevent users from accessing these services?
To turn off access to these new services for some users, you should:
- Add the users who shouldn't have access to these services to an organizational unit or group.
