Manage domain registration renewals

If you purchase a domain through Google while signing up for Google services, your domain ownership is valid for one year. After that, you must renew your domain registration to keep owning the domain.

Avoid suspension. Set your domain purchased through Google to automatically renew and make sure your payment method is valid and up to date. Otherwise, your Google services might be suspended and you might lose domain ownership.

Step 1: Find your domain registrar

How you manage your domain registration renewal depends on who your domain registrar is. If you purchased your domain from a partner registrar during Google Workspace or Cloud Identity setup, you can find your domain registrar (host) in the Google Admin console.

  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. In the Admin console, go to Menu and then Accountand thenDomainsand thenManage domains.
  3. You can find your domain registrar by clicking View Details in the Actions column

  4. If your registrar is Squarespace, GoDaddy, Enom, or DomainDiscount24.com, go to Manage registration and renewal in the Admin console.

If you don’t have domain registrar information in your domain’s Status column, you purchased your domain separately from your Google service. To manage your domain renewal, you need to go to your domain registrar’s website. If you need help finding your domain registration host, see Identify your domain host.

Step 2: Cancel domain registration and autorenewal in Google Workspace

  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

Sign in using an account with super administrator privileges (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. In the Admin console, go to Menu and then Billingand thenSubscriptions.
  3. Click your Domain Registration subscription.

You’ll see the domain registration renewal cost and expiration/renewal date.

  4. If you need to change your renewal payment details, go to Update credit card details and complete the steps.
  5. To prevent your domain from automatically renewing, click Cancel subscription and follow the steps to remove domain billing from your account.

After you cancel domain autorenewal in Google Workspace, you can't add it back to your account. Contact your domain host if you want to renew your domain.

When does my domain registration expire?

You can see your domain registration expiration and renewal date in the Admin console. Go to Billingand thenSubscriptionsand thenDomain Registration. Next to Plan Renewal, you can see your domain registration renewal date.

Can I pay for several years at once?

No. You can’t pay for multiple years at once. And you cannot renew your domain before its annual renewal date. If your domain is set to automatically renew and your payment method is valid, we’ll renew your domain for you and your Google services will continue uninterrupted.

Can I renew my domain after it expires?

Maybe. It depends how long it’s been since your registration expired. See Renew an expired domain registration.

Can I transfer my domain to a different host?

Yes, moving your domain to a new host allows you to manage it outside of the Google Admin console. Make sure the transfer process is complete before your domain expiration and renewal date. To find the date, in the Admin console, go to Billingand thenSubscriptionsand thenDomain Registration and next to Plan Renewal, you can see your domain registration renewal date. For details on moving your domain, see Transfer your domain from a Google Workspace partner host.

Can I get a refund if I didn’t mean to renew my domain?

It depends on your subscription. If your domain registration subscription is set to automatically renew and the renewal date has passed, you can’t receive a refund for payments. However, if you turn off automatic renewal during the 7 days prior to your expiration date and we already charged you for the renewal, you might qualify for a refund. To qualify:

  1. Within 7 days of the renewal date, cancel your domain registration subscription. See How do I cancel my domain registration subscription?
  2. For the refund request, contact Google Workspace support.

Why don’t I see domain registration in my Billing subscriptions?

If you don’t see Domain registration as one of your billing subscriptions in the Google Admin console, you purchased your domain separately from signing up for a Google service. You manage your domain through your domain registrar’s site. For help identifying your domain registration host, see Identify your domain host.
