You can use a Google Classroom account for personal use, but in a school setting you must use a school-provided Workspace for Education account. Doing so improves the security of the overall Classroom experience for everyone.
A Workspace for Education account has new features made specifically for educational use, such as originality reports and is better integrated with Google Meet.
