This article is for administrators.
As a Google Workspace administrator, you can set up Classroom add-ons so teachers can share engaging activities and content with students. Add-ons can be attached to assignments, quiz assignments, questions, materials, or announcements.
What you need to use add-ons in Classroom
- You must be using Google Workspace for Education Plus or the Teaching and Learning upgrade.
- Add-on attachments can only be created and assigned on the web version of Classroom. Some third parties also allow add-on attachment creation from their website.
- Add-on attachment can be viewed, completed, and graded on both the web and mobile versions of Classroom.
Set up an add-on
There are several ways for teachers to interact with an add-on. They can:
- Launch the add-on application from within Classroom
- Upgrade pasted links to add-on attachments
- Create add-on attachments from third-party websites
There are three ways for administrators to let users access add-ons:
- Admin install: Install an add-on for teachers within a group, organizational unit (OU), or domain.
- This is the recommended option, as it enables all interactions for teachers within the group, OU, or domain without any further action or configurations.
- Important: Only an admin can install some add-ons.
- This is the recommended option, as it enables all interactions for teachers within the group, OU, or domain without any further action or configurations.
- Allowlist: Allow teachers to individually install add-ons
- This option authorizes all teachers to create add-on attachments from authorized third-party websites. Teachers must then install the add-on themselves to enable other interactions.
- Configure API controls: Lets teachers attach add-ons from third-party websites only.
- Important: The add-on application must still be installed with the admin install or allowlist options to enable the launch in Classroom and upgrade pasted links.
