Create interactive questions for YouTube videos in Classroom Resources
Video activities you create in Classroom Resources can be used in future assignments. Learn more about Classroom Resources.
- On your computer, go to classroom.google.com.
- Optional: To expand the navigation drawer, at the top left, click Menu .
- On the left, click Resources .
- Click New video activity .
- To find a video, you can either:
- Search YouTube
- Paste a YouTube URL in the search bar
- To create interactive questions for YouTube videos, click Add questions.
Tip: To collapse a menu, at the top left, click Menu .
Create interactive questions for YouTube videos in an assignment
- On your computer, go to classroom.google.com.
- Click a class.
- At the top left, click Classwork Create .
- In the drop down list, click Assignment.
- Enter both:
- Title
- Instructions
- Under “Attach,” click YouTube .
- To find a video, you can either:
- Search YouTube
- Paste a YouTube URL in the search bar
- To create interactive questions for YouTube videos, click Add questions.
Tip: When you find a video for your assignment, under “My video activities,” you can edit, attach, or delete an existing video activity. To:
- Edit or attach a video activity: Click on a video you want to edit or attach.
- Delete a video activity: Click More Delete .
Create, edit, or delete interactive questions in a YouTube video
You can only create, edit, or delete questions in a YouTube video activity before you attach it to an assignment. If you’ve already attached an activity and like to make changes, you must create a new activity.
Add a questionImportant: Students receive real-time feedback on multiple choice and checkbox questions. After an activity is turned in, you can still verify student responses and manually change grading for these questions. Learn how to grade & track interactive questions for YouTube videos.
To select a time from the YouTube video where you want to add a question to, in the video, click the timestamp you want to use. Question time can also be edited using the “Question time” selector.
- Click + Add.
- Choose a question type.
- To add a multiple choice question:
- Click Multiple choice .
- In the “Answer options” section, enter answer options.
- To add another answer option: Click Add option.
- To remove an answer option: Click Remove answer option .
- To enter the correct answer, next to the answer option, click the Radio button .
- Optional: To rearrange your answer options, click Shuffle order.
- Click Save and continue.
- To add an open-ended question:
- Click Open-ended .
- Enter a question.
- At the bottom left, the question displays.
- Click Save and continue.
- To add a checkbox question:
- Click Checkboxes .
- In the “Answer options” section, enter answer options.
- To add another answer option: Click Add option.
- To remove an answer option: Click Remove answer option .
- To enter the correct answer(s), check the box(es) next to the answer option(s) you want to select.
- Optional: To rearrange your answer options, click Shuffle order.
- Click Save and continue.
- To add a multiple choice question:
- Optional: To add another question, click + Add.
- Under "Your activity questions," select the question you want to edit.
- Under “Add a question,” edit the question.
- For multiple choice questions: To select the correct answer, next to the answer option, click the Gray circle with a gray dot.
- For checkbox questions: To select the correct answer, next to the answer option, click on the Checkbox.
- Click Save and continue.
- Under "Your activity questions," select the question you want to delete.
- Click Remove Remove.
- Under "Activity overview," click Details.
- Under "Instructional text (optional)," add your activity instructions.
Important: If you want to assign only a specific segment of a larger video for the students to watch, use a video start and end time.
- Under "Activity overview," click Details.
- Under "Set start and end time for video:"
- To mark the minute and seconds where the video will start for students: Add a start time.
- To mark the minute and seconds where the video will stop for students: Add an end time.
Important: Suggested questions are only available for certain videos in English. In order to use this feature, teachers must be designated as over 18 years of age (see this article for more: Control access to Google services by age). Once the suggested questions are accepted and the video activity is created, it can be assigned to users of any age.
Suggested questions have been generated by AI based on the content of a video. Suggested questions available on videos are consistent for each user. They are available when you find a spark icon below the video title in the video search results.
- Under "Your activity questions," the suggested questions are denoted by the spark icon .
- To edit or delete suggested questions, follow the same instructions listed above.
Preview interactive questions for YouTube videos in an assignment
You can use preview as a student with interactive questions for YouTube to:
- Verify format
- Check question accuracy and navigation
Important: You only can preview an activity after all autograde questions have a correct answer selected.
- At the top, click Try as a student .
- The student view opens in a new window.
- Click Get started.
