If your teacher allows it, you can communicate with your class in the class stream in the following ways:
- Announcement—Information or a question that you add to the class stream.
Example: When do we visit the museum?
- Comment—A response to a post or comment.
Example: We go next Friday.
- Reply—A response to a comment that mentions the person who made the comment.
Example: +commenter’s name Thanks!
If you don't want to post in the class stream, you can send a private comment to your teacher on an assignment or question.
Note: If your teacher mutes you, you can’t post, comment, or reply to comments. Only teachers can unmute a student.
Create a post
- Tap Classroom .
- Tap the class.
- On the Stream page, tap Share with your class.
Note: If you don’t see Share with your class, a teacher turned off permissions to post.
- Enter your messagetap Post .
Add an image, file, video, or link to your post
You can attach items to your post, such as images, files, Google Drive items, YouTube videos, or links.
- Tap Classroom .
- Tap the class.
- On the Stream page, tap Announce something to your class. If you don’t see Announce something to your class, a teacher turned off permissions to post.
- Tap Attach choose an option:
Attachment type Directions Drive - Tap Drive .
- Tap the itemSelect.
Link - Tap Link
- Enter the URL and tap Add.
File - Tap Upload .
- Tap the item.
Take a photo - Tap Camera .
- Take the photo and tap Done.
Record a video - Tap Record video Record video .
- Record the video and tap Done.
PDF - Tap New PDF .
- (Optional) To write notes or draw images on the PDF, go to Write notes on your work.
- Tap Save .
- Tip: When images and gifs are attached, a large version of the first one attached appears on your post as a display image.
- To edit a display image:
- Attach the images.
- On the right of the image thumbnail, tap the Menu Set as display image .
- To remove a display image:
- Select the Menu Remove as display image .
- Tap Save.
- Add a message to the post.
You can’t post an attachment without a message.
- Tap Post .
Note: If you see a message that you don’t have permission to attach a file, tap Copy. Classroom makes a copy of the file to attach to your post and saves the copy to the class Drive folder.
Attach Drive files with earlier versions of Android
To check which version of Android your device uses, go to Check your Android version.

When you tap the Drive icon , you’ll be asked to update your device. For instructions, go to Update your Android version. The update might not work on some older devices, but you can choose another option:

Delete a post
You can only delete your own posts.
- Tap Classroom .
- Tap the class.
- On the post, tap More Delete.
- Tap Delete to confirm.
Add a comment to a post
Comments are text only. You can’t add pictures, links, or videos. A teacher can delete comments.
- Tap Classroom .
- Tap the class.
- On the post, tap Add class commentAdd class comment.
- Enter your comment and tap Post .
Reply to a comment
This feature is only available in the computer version of Classroom. To find the instructions, click Computer.
Delete a comment
You can only delete your own comments.
- Tap Classroom .
- Tap the class.
- Find the post with your comment and tap # class comment.
- Tap the commentDelete.
- Tap Delete to confirm.
Send a private comment to your teacher
- Tap Classroom .
- Tap the class.
- On the Stream page, tap the question or assignment.
- At the bottom, tap Add private comment.
- Enter your commenttap Post .
