What browsers are available?
Classroom, a Google Workspace for Education product, supports the latest version of Chrome and the current and previous releases of Firefox and Safari. 
Is there a Classroom app for my phone or tablet?
Yes. The Classroom app is available for Android, Chrome, and iOS devices. For more information, see Get the Classroom app.

Google Workspace for Education

How does Classroom relate to Google Workspace for Education?
Classroom is a product in Google Workspace for Education, which also includes Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and more. Classroom works with Google Workspace for Education so that instructors and students can communicate easily, create classes, distribute work, and stay organized. Learn more about Classroom.
My school doesn't use Google Workspace for Education. Can I use Classroom with my students who have personal accounts?
No. To use Classroom with students at a school, the school must sign up for a Google Workspace for Education Fundamentals account. Then, schools can decide which Google services their teachers and students can use.
Also, with Education Fundamentals, teachers and students have the benefit of additional privacy and security protectionthat are important in a school setting.
Can I use Classroom if Gmail is disabled on my Google Workspace for Education domain?
Yes. You don’t need to have Gmail enabled to use Classroom. However, if your administrator hasn’t enabled Gmail, teachers and students won’t receive email notifications.
Important: If you have your own mail server set up and receive Drive notifications, you also receive Classroom notifications.
Can I use Classroom if Drive is disabled on my Google Workspace for Education domain?
No. Classroom works with Drive, Docs, and other Google Workspace for Education services to help teachers create and collect assignments and students to submit work online. If Drive is disabled:
  • Docs and other services are also disabled.
  • You won’t be able to attach these materials to work you assign students.
  • Students won’t be able to attach them to their work either.
  • You can still use Classroom, but the feature set is very limited.
Classroom is mostly the same for all users. However, because users with school accounts have access to Google Workspace for Education, they get additional features, such as:
  • Email summaries of student work for guardians
  • Full administration of user accounts

Workspace for Nonprofits users have the same features as Google Workspace for Education users.

How does Google Assignments differ from Google Classroom?
Google Assignments is for institutions that use a learning management system (LMS) and want improved assignment and grading workflows. The school admin integrates Assignments within the LMS as a Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) tool.
If you use Classroom, you already enjoy the best of Assignments, including Originality reports.

Safety and security

Does Classroom contain ads?
No. Like all Google Workspace for Education services, there are no ads in Classroom. Your content or data is never used for advertising purposes. Learn more about privacy and security.
Does Google own the student, teacher, or school data in Classroom?
No. Google doesn’t assume ownership of any user data in Google Workspace core services, including Google Workspace for Education. If an education department, school or university decides to stop using Google, we make it easy for them to take their data with them.
Does Google use any of the teachers’, students’, or schools' data outside of Classroom?
Your content or data is never used for advertising purposes. Learn more about privacy and security.
