The Wi-Fi screen enables you to control advanced settings for your Wi-Fi network.
To configure advanced Wi-Fi settings:
- Touch Network.
- Touch Network settings.
- Touch Advanced network settings.
- Touch Wi-Fi. This will display your Wi-Fi settings.
5 GHz Wi-Fi SSID
If desired, you can assign a different network name (SSID) to the 5 GHz radio, so users can decide which frequency they want to use when connecting to your Wi-Fi network.
To assign a different SSID to the 5GHz radio:
- Click the toggle next to Use separate 5GHz SSID, and enter a new network name for that frequency.
The SSID is case-sensitive and must be 1 to 32 characters long. -
Click Save. The new setting takes effect immediately. Now you can connect your devices to the new network.
If you assign a different SSID for the 5 GHz radio:
-
The password for the 5 GHz network is the same as the existing password for the 2.4 GHz network. You can't create different passwords for the two networks; if you change the password, it changes for both.
-
When wireless devices are connected at 5 GHz, those devices disconnect when you click Save after changing the SSID; however, 2.4 GHz connections are unaffected.
-
The network name you specified when you configured your Wi-Fi network appears for the 2.4 GHz radio only.
-
If you enable SSID broadcasting, wireless devices see both networks when they connect. The broadcast setting applies to both, whether you have one or two SSIDs.
Legacy mode (WPA/WPA2)
To add legacy mode:
- Next to Legacy mode, click the toggle to change it from OFF to ON.
-
Click Save
Channels
All Wi-Fi network equipment, including client devices and routers, communicate over specific channels. Similar to channels on a traditional TV, each Wi-Fi channel is designated by a number that represents a specific radio communication frequency.
By default, the Network Box or router automatically set and adjust their channels as part of their communication protocol. Most of the time, you don't need to worry about these settings; however, you might want to change your Wi-Fi channel in certain situations, particularly if your Wi-Fi network seems slower than usual.
The Channels setting allows you to select the channel of your choice for each frequency on your network or to allow the Network Box to adjust the channel automatically.
You can use one of the many Wi-Fi analysis apps available that indicate which channels nearby have the strongest signal.
To set the channel manually:
-
Next to Channels, select the channel you want for each frequency (or for the desired frequency) from the drop-down lists.
