There are different issues that can interfere with the setup of your Google Nest Wifi or Google Wifi devices. If device setup fails, this article can help you resolve those issues.
When you set up your Google routers and points, you might encounter these issues:
- At one point, you can’t connect to the internet or get a Wi-Fi message such as:
- “Wifi point out of range”
- “Connection issue”
- “Something went wrong”
- “Problem connecting”
- The light indicates a network error.
- Google Nest Wifi router or point, or Google Wifi point shows offline in the mesh test part.
Troubleshooting
If you’re having issues with setup, follow these steps:
Step 1. Check your cables and connections
Sometimes loose, disconnected, or damaged cables can cause connection issues. Make sure that:
- The provided Ethernet cable is connected securely (the tab should click in) to your Google Nest Wifi router or primary Google Wifi point’s WAN port . The other end should be connected securely to your modem.
- Your modem and Wifi router and point(s) are powered on, connected to the same Wi-Fi network, and all cables are secure.
- Your modem is connected to an internet source, such as your cable, DSL, or Fiber provider’s line that comes into your home.
Step 2. Make sure you meet the setup requirements

Step 3. Force close, then reopen the Google Home app
Closing and reopening the Google Home app has been proven to resolve most concerns, including setup. For detailed steps on how to do this, refer to the following articles:

Step 4. Uninstall, then reinstall the Google Home app

Step 5. Forget nearby networks
