If you have trouble resolving issues with a Pixel Tablet after you restart it, you can restore the tablet to its original settings with a factory reset. Before you perform a factory reset, you can also reset your network or app settings to their original state.
Important: To dock your Pixel Tablet or use Hub Mode, you need a Charging Speaker Dock. You can purchase the Pixel Tablet with or without a dock, or purchase a dock separately.
If you factory reset your tablet, all of your data will be deleted from its internal storage, including:
- Your Google Account and user profile data
- System and app data and settings
- Downloaded apps
How to factory reset your Pixel Tablet
1. Troubleshoot issues with your tablet
- Open your device's Settings app .
- Tap About tablet Google Account Account sync.
- Tip: If you have more than one account, tap the one you want to sync.
- Turn on each setting you want to sync.
- At the top, tap More Sync now.
You can also back up your files automatically with Google One:
- Open your device's Settings app .
- Tap Google Backup Back up now.
3. Charge and connect your tablet
A factory reset can take up to an hour. Make sure your tablet is charged and connected to a network:
- Charge your tablet to at least 70%.
- Connect your tablet to a Wi-Fi network. When the factory reset completes, you need to be connected to sign into your Google Account.
4. Perform a factory reset
- Open your device's Settings app .
- Tap System Reset options Erase all data (factory reset).
- Tap Erase all data follow the on-screen instructions.
If you can't factory reset your Pixel Tablet from the Settings app or can't use your screen, you can use your tablet's buttons instead:
- If your Pixel Tablet is on, turn it off.
- Press and hold the Volume Down and Power buttons at the same time for up to 10-15 seconds until the recovery menu appears.
- If you hold down the buttons for too long, the tablet restarts. If this happens, try again from step 1.
- Use the Volume buttons to select Recovery Mode press the Power button once to select it.
- When "No command" is displayed on your screen, press and hold your tablet's Power button. While you hold down the Power button, press the Volume Up button quickly let go of both buttons.
- When Android Recovery options are displayed, use the Volume buttons to select Wipe data/factory reset press the Power button.
- Use the Volume buttons to select Factory data reset press the Power button to begin the reset.
- After the reset completes, use the Volume buttons to select Reboot system now press the Power button.
- After the OS install completes, follow the on-screen instructions to set up your tablet and restore your backed-up data. Learn how to back up or restore data.
6. (Optional) Reset remotely with Find My Device
If you lose your tablet, you can remotely reset it. Your tablet must be connected to the Internet and you need to turn on Find My Device:
- Open your device's Settings app .
- Tap Security & privacy Device finders Find My Device turn on Use Find My Device.
If you can't reset your tablet
If you can't factory reset your tablet for any reason, you can remove your Google Account from it:
- In a web browser, go to myaccount.google.com.
- Tap Security Your devices.
- Where the device is listed, tap More Sign out.
Important: Your backup will be deleted if you delete your Google Account from your tablet.
