Unsubscribe from an email

If you get frequent promotional emails and newsletters in Gmail, you can unsubscribe from them. After you unsubscribe, it may take a few days for you to stop receiving emails from the mailing list.

Unsubscribe from a promotional email or newsletter

An animation that shows how to unsubscribe from a sender in Gmail on their computer. In the animation, a user enters mail.google.com in their browser, opens an email, and then selects the "Unsusbcribe" link at the top of the email.

Important: To unsubscribe, some senders may require you to go to their website. Instead of an unsubscribe option, you get a "Go to website" option in the email.

  1. On your computer, go to Gmail.
  2. Open an email you want to unsubscribe from.
  3. Next to the sender's name, click Unsubscribe.
  4. In the pop-up, click Unsubscribe or Go to website.
  5. Optional: After you unsubscribe, in the banner, click Move to spam.

Tips:

  • When you unsubscribe from a specific email, it might only unsubscribe you from a single mailing list from the sender. To unsubscribe and locate all active subscriptions from a sender, on the left, click More and then Manage subscriptions. Learn how to manage your subscriptions in Gmail.
  • When you unsubscribe, instead of the sender’s name, you may find a unique identifier for a mailing list or list ID.
