If you get unwanted emails, you can block the sender in Gmail. After you block the sender, all future emails from them go to Spam.
Block or unblock an email address
Important: If you get frequent promotional emails and newsletters in Gmail, you can unsubscribe:
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app .
- Open the message from the sender.
- At the top right of the message, tap More .
- Tap Block "{sender}" or Unblock "{sender}."
Prevent valid emails from going to Spam
After you unblock a sender, their emails should no longer be sent to Spam. If you still find their emails in Spam, try these steps.
Remove the email from SpamAfter you remove the email, future emails from that sender won’t go to Spam.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app .
- At the top left, tap Menu Spam.
- Open the email you want to remove.
- At the top right, tap More Report not spam.
When you add the sender to Google Contacts, Gmail won’t send their messages to Spam.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Contacts app .
- At the bottom right, tap Add .
- Enter the contact’s name and an email or phone number.
- Tap Save.
Tip: If you don’t have the Contacts app, download the app from the Google Play Store.
Important: To create a filter, open Gmail from your computer.
You can create a filter for your sender so that their emails never go to Spam.
- On your computer, open Gmail.
- At the top, in the search bar, click Show search options .
- Next to “From,” enter the sender’s email address.
- If you want to check that your search works correctly, click Search.
- At the bottom of the search window, click Create filter.
- Next to “Never send it to Spam,” check the box.
- Click Create filter.
Manage suspicious emails
Important: If someone uses Gmail to harass, intimidate, or threaten you, they're violating Gmail's Program Policies. If you feel that you're in danger, contact your local authorities right away, and ask whether any cyber harassment laws apply to your situation.
- While Gmail tries to keep spam out of your inbox, some spam may get through. If you get spam in your inbox, you can report it.
- If you find a suspicious email that asks for personal information, you can report the email for phishing.
