About template types

This article describes the full Templates feature functionality, which will be released in phases. Learn more about Templates functionality.

Templates are linked to feed data and can be used to dynamically create and update campaign structure, targeting, and creatives. The Templates feature allows you to:

  • Generate new campaign structure, targeting, and creatives: Templates can be configured to generate new campaigns and their associated structure, targeting, and creatives.
  • Generate new responsive search ads (RSAs) using existing parent ad groups and associated campaign data, sub-manager level custom columns (except feed-based custom columns), and sub-manager level custom dimensions.
  • Coming soon: Update existing campaign structure by generating new campaigns, targeting, and creatives. Templates can be configured to use campaign and ad group data (and associated custom dimensions data) to define what the template generates.

The following table lists the template types and describes how they can be used:

Responsive search ad (RSA) templates

Note: Only applies to Google Ads and Microsoft Advertising

Along with ad group template parents, generates tailored ad copy based on unique feed values or a unique combination of feed values to display more relevant messages to potential customers Updates tailored ad copy that's associated with existing ad groups (coming soon: including associated custom dimensions data)
Keyword templates Generates keywords for each unique feed value or combination of feed values (based on the multiplier and keyword formulas) Updates keywords associated with existing ad groups (coming soon: including associated custom dimensions data)
Negative keyword templates Generates negative keywords for each unique feed value or combination of feed values (based on the multiplier and keyword formulas) Updates negative keywords associated with existing campaigns and ad groups (coming soon: including associated custom dimensions data)
Sitelink templates Generates tailored sitelink assets based on unique feed values or a unique combination of feed values to display more relevant messages to potential customers Updates sitelink assets associated with existing campaigns and ad groups (coming soon: including associated custom dimensions data)
Plan (organizational) templates

Plan templates are optional and can be used to organize collections of campaign templates for generating campaigns across multiple advertising platforms and client accounts

Useful when you want to use multiple campaign templates for a common purpose

All templates organized under a plan template must use the same client accounts and feeds
