Hype a video

IMPORTANT: This feature is currently in a limited beta and only available in certain countries at this time.

Help your favourite up-and-coming creators get more views and reach new fans by hyping their new long-form videos up to three times each week or through pay to hype. When you hype a video, you give the video points. YouTube automatically applies bonus points to your hype based on the creator's subscriber count. The fewer subscribers a creator has, the more bonus points are applied to each hype.

Videos with the most points are added to a new leaderboard that shows the most hyped videos over the last week. With the point bonus based on a creator's subscriber count, eligible creators of all sizes have the chance to reach the top of the leaderboard. The leaderboard will display the same list of videos to all viewers in the same country so you can discover fresh content that people near you have endorsed with a hype.

Availability and eligibility

Availability

You and the creator must be based in Brazil, Taiwan or Türkiye to hype content. We're hoping to roll this feature out to more creators and viewers in the future.

  • Brazil – hype at no cost and for a cost
  • Türkiye – hype at no cost (only option)
  • Taiwan – hype at no cost (only option)

Eligibility

You can only hype long-form videos, uploaded within the last seven days, from creators with 500 to 500,000 subscribers. You must be 18+ in eligible countries to use Hype. To keep the YouTube community safe, fun and enjoyable for everyone, there are some types of content that aren't eligible to be hyped. Additionally, all hyped content must comply with YouTube's Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.

Hype at no cost

If you're in one of the available countries, you can hype three times each week. If you choose, you can hype the same video three times or hype different videos.

On Mondays at midnight, local time, we'll refresh your ability to hype. For example, if it's Sunday evening and you've hyped twice over the past week, at midnight on Monday, you can now hype three times throughout the week.

Pay to hype

Note: Not currently available on all devices.

If you're in one of the available countries, you can pay to hype as many times as you wish on the same video. However, depending on your country/region, the daily and weekly purchase limit will vary.

FAQs

I accidentally hyped a video. Can I undo it?

We don't have the option to undo a hype at this time.

Will the creator know I hyped their video?

No, we don't have the option for creators to view who hyped their videos at this time.

Why can't I hype a video?

If you can't hype a video, here are some reasons why:

  • You're not eligible for the beta because you're not based in Brazil, Taiwan or Türkiye
  • You're not logged in
  • You're not using the latest version of the YouTube app on a mobile device
  • The creator isn't eligible for the beta because:
    • They're not based in Brazil, Taiwan or Türkiye
    • They don't have between 500 and 500,000 subscribers
    • Their channel is set as Made for Kids

Can I view all of the videos I've hyped?

We'll send you notifications when your weekly recap of hyped videos is ready to view. Learn how to manage notifications.

How do bonus points work for smaller creators?

Smaller creators get bonus points when you hype their videos. The smaller the creator, the bigger the bonus that they will get. This is measured by their current subscriber count.
For example, for a channel with 500 subscribers, hyping once results in 7,500 points to the video. However, for a channel with 500,000 subscribers, each hype results in 50 points to the video. The small creator bonus helps balance the playing field for creators with different amounts of subscribers.

Can I get a refund when I pay to hype?

Pay to hype are voluntary, non-refundable payments. You can view YouTube's refund policies for more info. If you're having trouble or have questions about a payment, get in touch with our support team. As with everything on YouTube, you must follow our Community Guidelines.
