In the Privacy & messaging tool, sites are assigned to a host, which is the Google product associated with the site in Privacy & messaging. Sites are unassigned by default and display a dash ("-") in the "Host" column on the "Select your sites" page. When you add a site to a message or edit the site's privacy policy URL, the product you are currently signed in to will be assigned as the site's host in the Privacy & messaging tool. For example, if you add a site to a new message in AdSense, the assigned host of the site will become AdSense.
If you want to remove a site's host, you can do so from the "Select your sites" page. However, it is important to remember that if you remove a site's host, the site and its subsites will be removed from all assigned messages and any messages where the site was the only targeted site will be deleted from Privacy & messaging. Messages are associated with the Google product in which they were created, so when the host is removed from a site, messages associated with that host are also removed from the site.
Required permissions
- For the "Host" column to become visible in the "Select your sites" page, you must have linked accounts in both Ad Manager and Adsense.
- To remove a site's host, you must have permission to edit the account and platform that you are accessing:
- Ad Manager: You must be a direct user with the Administrator user role or an equivalent custom user role with similar permissions, and must be accessing the "Select your sites" page in Ad Manager.
- AdSense: You must be a direct user with "Standard" or "Admin" user access permissions for the associated AdSense account and must be accessing the "Select your sites" page in AdSense.

Remove a site's host
Before removing the host of a site, there are some important things you should know:
- The site and its subsites will be removed from all assigned messages in Privacy & messaging.
- Any messages that no longer have sites assigned as a result of these changes will be deleted.
- You can create new messages for unassigned sites in Ad Manager or AdSense. The product you use to create the message will be assigned as the site's new host.
- If you edit the privacy policy of an unassigned site, the product you use to make this change will be assigned as the site's new host.
- Do not delete a site while it is still assigned to a host product. Deleting the site won't un-assign the managing host product, and the site won't be targetable by user messages created in the non-host product.
Complete the following steps to remove the host of a site:
- Sign in to Google Ad Manager.
- Click Privacy & messaging.
- Click Manage on one of the message type cards on the Privacy & messaging page.
