Link AdSense or Ad Exchange
Linking AdSense products or Ad Exchange properties lets buyers access your inventory via AdSense or Ad Exchange line items.
- You can link AdSense for Content to Ad Manager. AdSense for Searchcan't be linked to Ad Manager.
- You can link multiple Ad Exchange accounts that are dedicated to different inventory types.
Unlinking/disabling an Ad Exchange property in a network does not affect existing active line items that use it and traffic continues to be logged against that property.
- Your network might not be eligible to link accounts. Contact support for more information. If you don't already have an Ad Exchange account, contact a sales representative or one of our partners to create an account.
- If you have an account but haven't yet started, learn how to set up AdSense in Google Ad Manager.
- Your user role doesn't have permission to view or edit these options. Contact your Ad Manager network administrator to link the accounts.
- Linked accounts can’t be used with Multiple Customer Management. For details, go to About Linked accounts and MCM setup options.
Get Started
- Sign in to Google Ad Manager.
- Navigate to Admin, then Linked accounts.
- To link Ad Exchange properties, click Ad Exchange, then New Ad Exchange link.
- To link AdSense products, click AdSense, then New AdSense link.

Enter the web property code. Property types are aligned with inventory types in Ad Manager. The property code consists of the publisher ID associated with your AdSense or Ad Exchange account along with an identifier of the inventory type.
- Enter a display name, which you'll select when you create an AdSense or Ad Exchange line item.
- Enter the contact email address that's used to sign in to AdSense or Ad Exchange.
- Enter the account verification details, such as the ZIP code or last five digits of the phone number associated with the AdSense or Ad Exchange account.
- Click Save.
Ad Manager may take a moment to validate the link. If successful, the new network will be displayed in the "Linked accounts" section with a "Pending" status. For Ad Exchange, no other steps are needed.
Web property codes
Property codes consist of the publisher ID (in the form of "pub-1234567890
") associated with your AdSense or Ad Exchange and an identifier of the inventory type. There are four inventory types and respective property codes:

Using AdSense
You need to activate third-party access to Ad Manager in AdSense to link accounts.
Activate an AdSense link
- In AdSense, click menu .
- Click settings , then Access and authorization, and then Third-party access.
- Locate the request for your Ad Manager network and click Approve.
Using Ad Exchange
Settings for linked Ad Exchange accounts
Once you've activated an Ad Exchange link, you can configure the linked account settings. To set up or edit these settings, click the account display name.
Display name
This name is intended to help traffickers in your Ad Manager network identify the account. The display name does not need to match the actual name of your Ad Exchange account.
Default for dynamic allocation
Toggle on to make inventory under this property code eligible for dynamic allocation. If you have both video and games web properties, you should activate this setting for one property type, but not for both. Contact support if you have questions about this setting.
Programmatic Direct
Programmatic Direct allows you to negotiate Preferred Deals and Programmatic Guaranteed.
Link an account for Audience Extension
This allows you to share first-party audience segments with Ad Exchange or Display & Video 360 accounts.
- Sign in to Google Ad Manager.
- Click Admin, then Linked accounts.
- Click Audience Extension, and then New Audience Extension link.

Enter your customer ID. For Authorized Buyers, this is the customer ID for your Authorized Buyers account. For a Display & Video 360 advertiser, this is the number located next to the advertiser name in the Display & Video 360 interface.

Select either Ad Exchange or Display & Video 360 as the advertiser type.

Click Confirm.
View or remove a linked Google Analytics account
Link Google Analytics and Ad Exchange to view Ad Exchange data in Google analytics. To view already linked Google Analytics accounts, or to remove an account link from Ad Manager:
- Sign in to Google Ad Manager.
- Click Admin, then Linked accounts.
- Click Google Analytics 4 property.
Manage incoming Ad Exchange accounts
- Sign in to Google Ad Manager.
- Click Admin, then Linked accounts.
- Click Incoming Ad Exchange.
- Under "Action", choose an option:
- To link an Ad Manager account, click Enable.
- To unlink an Ad Manager account, click Disable.
Link statuses
Status | Description |
---|---|
Active | This Ad Manager account can use slot selection when creating backfill creatives because the association with this account has been validated. |
Association not possible | The web property code you entered was not the correct format. |
Invalidated | Ad Manager can no longer validate the information saved for this account because the information changed since it was originally validated. |
Not associated | Slot selection cannot be used to create backfill creatives for this account either because the account information is missing, the link was disabled in AdSense or Ad Exchange, or the account has been disapproved for policy violations. |
Pending | The account link needs to be activated before slot selection can be used to create backfill creatives. Learn how to activate an AdSense link. |
Refused | This Ad Manager account cannot use slot selection when creating backfill creatives because the association with this account was refused. To use this account, make sure you submit the correct account information, then validate the association. |
Ending monetization with Ad Exchange
If you no longer want to monetize with Ad Exchange, complete the applicable changes:
- "Archive" or “Pause” all Ad Exchange line items in a “Ready” or “Delivering” status.
- “Archive” or “Pause” all “Sold” proposals that contain Preferred Deal or Programmatic Guaranteed standard/sponsorship proposal line items in a “Ready,” “Delivering,” or “Delivery extended” status. Ensure all Archive or Pause actions are completed and pushed to the corresponding line items, which sometimes will require you to “Request acceptance” from the buyer again.
- "Pause" or "Delete" all “Active” Yield groups. For keeping Mediation-specific Yield groups “Active”, create an "Inventory exclusion" Protection to block all indirect demand on the inventory targeted by those Mediation-specific Yield groups.
- Stop all “Running” Private Auction deals by clicking “Stopped,” or “Archive.”
- "Archive" any Active Marketplace packages.
- Set all “Active” First look pricing rules to "Inactive," across all available environment types (for example, “Display” and “Mobile app”). Ensure you have a single “Active” First look pricing rule that blocks First look from all of your inventory.
After you have completed all of the applicable changes, navigate to Admin, then Linked accounts, and then Ad Exchange to "Remove” all linked Ad Exchange web properties.
