Create a non-customizable display project from scratch

If a template won't work for your non-customizable display ad project, you can create one from scratch. Create an HTML5 ad, compress it into a ZIP file, then upload it.

Supported ad formats

Currently, Ads Creative Studio only supports HTML5 display banners and rich media banners.

HTML5 display banners:

  • Are built with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
  • Can serve on web pages or in mobile apps
  • Support responsive assets
  • Support reporting on individual exits

In addition to the above, rich media banners:

  • Can include videos, audio, and other rich media components
  • Support different interactions, including hovering and scrolling

Limitations

  • Interstitial creatives are not supported.
  • Full screen expanding creatives are supported, but creatives that expand to other sizes are not supported.
  • All ad clickthroughs must use either the Enabler or click tags. Hard-coded clickthroughs using HTML anchor tags are not supported.

About the Enabler

To upload a rich media ad to Ads Creative Studio, you need to use the Enabler in your files. The Enabler is a JavaScript library that serves as a communication hub for your ad. You can use it to load files securely from the ad server when your ad is live. You can also use it to record interactions with your ad so you can know how it performs.

If you don't use the Enabler, you should use click tags to define landing pages for each exit.

Create a banner ad

You can create a banner ad using Google Web Designer or any HTML5 editor. Choose which option you'll use to learn how:

After your files are complete, compress them into a ZIP file, then upload it to Ads Creative Studio.

Add a custom size

After you upload your files, Ads Creative Studio will try to detect which dimensions your ad supports. You can also preview your ad in those sizes. If Ads Creative Studio didn't detect all of the supported dimensions, you can add custom sizes to the preview.

  1. Open the project.
  2. If you've already marked it complete, click Edit to make changes.
  3. Next to Dimensions, click the Select creative sizes menu. It looks like a drop-down menu that shows the number of selected sizes (for example, "8 sizes"). The size selection window opens. On the left side, the sizes are organized in groups. On the right side is a list with each selected size.
  4. Click Add custom size.
  5. Enter the width and height.
  6. Click Add.
  7. Click Apply. The custom size will appear in the live preview.
  8. Click Save.

Next step

If you're done making changes to your project, you can review it.
