Search terms report

Use the search terms report to add negative keywords to Google Shopping campaigns

The search terms report displays the search terms that match your keywords and product groups, and trigger ads to appear. You can use the report to find search terms that result in low value, high cost traffic to your Shopping campaigns. Then you can add negative keywords to prevent your Shopping ads from showing to people searching for those terms.

To add negative keywords to Shopping campaigns from the search terms report:

  1. Navigate to a Shopping campaign or ad group. (You can't add negative keywords from the engine-account level.)

Steps for navigating to a campaign
    1. In the left navigation panel, click All accounts.
What if the left navigation pane isn't visible?

    2. Click the navigation bar to display navigation options.

    3. In the "Agency" list, click on the agency that contains the advertiser. You can search for an agency by name or scroll through the list.

    4. In the "Advertiser" list, click on the advertiser that contains the engine account.

    5. In the "Account" list, click on the engine account that contains the campaign.
    6. In the "Campaign" list, click on the campaign.

    7. Click Apply or press the Enter key.

Search Ads 360 displays the campaign page.

Steps for navigating to an ad group
    1. In the left navigation panel, click All accounts.
What if the left navigation pane isn't visible?

    2. Click the navigation bar to display navigation options.

    3. In the "Agency" list, click the agency that contains the advertiser. You can search for an agency by name or scroll through the list.

    4. In the "Advertiser" list, click the advertiser that contains the engine account.

    5. In the "Account" list, click the engine account that contains the campaign.

    6. In the "Campaign" list, click the campaign that contains the ad group.

    7. In the "Ad group" list, click the ad group.

    8. Click Apply or press the Enter key.

Search Ads 360 displays the ad group page.

  2. Click the Keywords tab and select Search terms.

  3. Set the time range to weekly, monthly, or some other range that's wide enough to spot any trends.

  4. Set filters so the report shows just the queries you're interested in. For example, create these two filters to see queries that generate a high volume of traffic and aren't already matched by exact-match keywords:

  5. If you find a query you want to block, select the query and click the Add campaign negative keywords or Add ad group negative keywords button.

You can select up to 100 queries at a time. To add more than 100, repeat this step for each 100 negative keywords you want to add. For example:

    1. Select 100 queries.
    2. Select Add campaign negative keywords or or Add ad group negative keywords.
    3. Then select the next 100 queries and do the same.
