Set up keyword templates

Create a keyword template

  1. Sign in to your Search Ads 360 experience.
  2. Navigate to the relevant sub-manager account.
  3. From the page menu, under “Tools & settings”, click the Templates drop-down.
  4. Click Templates.
  5. Click the plus button .
  6. Click + Keyword template.
  7. Follow the instructions in the sections below, starting with Keyword template pre-stage.
    Click Continue to complete each stage and proceed to the next one.

“Flights” feed table

In this example, the "Flights" feed table contains the following columns of product data supplied by a new Search Ads 360 customer, Example Airways. 

Example Airways operates two brands. Albatross Flights sells transatlantic tickets between the US and European destinations, while Golden Eagle Flights markets route tickets within Europe. 

The example feed table only contains information for one route for each brand to ease understanding.

Keyword template pre-stage

  • Click Select ad group templates. and select one or more ad-group templates as parent(s) to the keyword template.
  • Note: The data source is inherited from the parent templates.
  • Click Add filter to add filters to modify the feed for your ad groups.

Name your keyword template.

  "Ad group templates"  

Inherited from pre-stage and not editable.

  • Inherited from ad group templates selected in pre-stage.
  • Add filters if required.
  "Multiplier"  

Multipliers define the columns from which the unique value combinations are derived. The unique value combinations determine the keyword instances that are generated from keyword templates.

You must select feed columns to create one negative keyword for each unique value combination.

  1. Click Select multipliers.
  2. Select the required multiplier columns from the feed columns.
  3. Click Done.
  "Label associations"  

Associate existing labels with template-generated campaigns, ad groups, ads, and keywords.

Enter static or dynamic values. Learn more about associating labels.

Click Add label to enter additional values.

  "Custom dimensions"  

Associate existing custom dimension values with template-generated campaigns, ad groups, ads, and keywords.

Enter static or dynamic values to match against feed data to determine the custom dimension value to be associated. Learn how to Create and apply custom dimensions.

Click "Add custom dimensions data" to select additional custom dimensions to associate values from.

  "Status"  
  • Select Remove, Pause, or No changes to set the template and both new and existing entity statuses when items are no longer found in the feed.
  • If required, select Create keywords in a paused state.
  • If required, select Pause keywords when a condition is met, then create your condition using a custom column.

Stage 2 Keyword settings

Stage 2 "Keyword settings” "Keywords"   For all advertising platforms and client accounts:
  • Set the keyword by selecting the match type - Broad, Phrase, or Exact - from the drop-down, then enter the keyword text as a custom column.
    The keyword can be static or dynamic.
    Click Add keyword to enter additional keywords.

For specific advertising platforms and client accounts:

  • Click "Add a custom setting" to create different keywords by account type or specific client account to better customize your keyword structure.

For example:

Four keyword values are entered as referenced feed columns:

  • f:"destination_country" - Match type=exact
  • f:"destination_name" - Match type=broad
  • f:"origin_country" - Match type=exact 
  • f:"origin_name" - Match type=broad

For keywords, you must select the appropriate columns in Multiplier at Step 1.

Example output:

  • Exact - France, UK, USA
  • Broad - Paris, London, Seattle

  "Max CPC"   For all advertising platforms and client accounts:
  • Set the max CPC by entering a static value or dynamic custom column for Broad, Phrase, and Exact, as applicable.
    Click Add keyword to enter additional keywords.

For specific advertising platforms and client accounts:

  • Click Add a custom setting  to create different max CPCs by account type or specific client account to better customize your max CPC structure.

For example:

Inherited, but for a custom setting may be:

  "Final URL"   For all advertising platforms and client accounts:
  • Set the Final URL by entering a static value or dynamic custom column. It must begin with http:// or https:// (recommended).

For specific advertising platform/client accounts:

  • Click Add a custom setting to create different final URLs by account type or specific client account to better customize your keyword final URL structure.

For example:

"https://example.com" & "/" & f:"brand" & "/" & f:"destination_country" & "/" & f:"origin_name" & "/" & f:"destination_name"

A keyword Final URL is created for each unique value combination generated.

For example:

  • https://example.com/albatrossflights/france/seattle/paris
  • https://example.com/goldeneagleflights/uk/paris/london

URLs must start with http:// or https:// (recommended). 

A keyword URL is created for each unique value combination generated.

Stage 3 Confirmation

Stage 3 "Confirmation" "Keywords preview"  
  • Preview the first 100 keywords.
  • Return to the previous stages to make required changes.
  • Click Create template to create the keyword template.
